How to Get 3 Month Old to Sleep in Crib for Naps...

My 3 month old son sleeps great in his crib at night, but he will not sleep there during the day for naps. I've tried everything. I've played Baby Einstein Lullaby CD, I bought a new mobile, etc. He'll fall asleep for about 20 minutes then wakes up crying and won't go back to sleep. As soon as I pick him up and either put him in my lap, his bouncy, or his swing, he falls right back to sleep. He also won't sleep in his pack-n-play. Any suggestions on getting him to sleep for an entire nap during the day in his crib?

What can I do next?

3 months is a big development for babies! Growth spurt, new senses being awakened. Perhaps your baby is very intrigued by the world around and the novelty will wear off and he will once again embrace sleep?
or he's changing his sleep patterns to meet changin sleep needs. perhaps he needs a bit less sleep now and hehasn't figured out how to organize it?
with a baby that young, if he is waking up after any period of sleep, he probably has had enough rest for the moment.
Wherever he sleeps / rests and is ready to resume life is a-okay. cars eat, bouncy, crib, baby sling. he has plenty of time to adopt a better liking of the official crib. can you just follow his lead to where he is most comfortable?

read Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child, and Babywise. Trust me, these work. Also like Baby Whisperer, but some of her methods are time consuming. I had problems too, when mine was 3 months, and out of desperation read these books and found my solutions. I know you're tired, but please read these books for your sanity and your child's health. The reason he won't stay asleep now, is that he knows you'll come and get him, and also, he's so tired, he can't help but be wired (the Dr. explains this in healthy sleep habits book) so it will take a few days to get him on track. Good luck!

I'm with Maggie. I let mine sleep in her bouncy seat at nap time until she outgrew it and then she started napping in her crib.

How do you lay him down? My kids loved to sleep on their stomach (I know its a no, no but thats the only way they would go to sleep and Im a light sleeper and they always slept real close to us) My 21 month old always had to have a dark and quiet room and still does. Like the other post, if he sleeps in the bouncer, let him sleep in it same way.

I had this same problem, I would allow her to sleep in her bouncy and swing, just so she would take a nap. Eventually she grew out of it and started sleeping in her crib. A few things that helped us were to make sure the room is very dark, make sure that he is in a room away from noise (I dont even let people talk when my baby is sleeping cause we have such a small house), make sure he is not hungry or wet.
When mine was more like 6 months, I would let her fuss a bit and usually she would fall asleep. but I dont know if you want to do this at 3 months.
Good luch, this will pass :)

i have two conterversial suggestiosn for you :):

1. let him sleep on his belly

2. let him cry (within reason)...it's so hard, but he will go back to sleep and it will get better quickly.

these two things worked with my daughter.
