Hi Ladies,
My son has wonderful teacher this year and I really want to get something nice for her. I just dont really know what she likes. I really dont want to just come out and ask her , but the same time I want it to be something that she really likes.
Any suggestions? Should I just ask or send a note asking what her favorite things are. I am not wanting to break the bank but want to show her how much I appreciate her!
Thanks in advance Ladies!

Oh and by the way I cant really offer to help out int the class because I have a toddler home with me and the principle doesnt want young children around (unfortunately)..........

I would ask her, flat out. I have many teacher friends, and they all appreciate it when someone asks what they like. They all keep the requests to under $5 without you having to tell them to do so - like some folks like a $5 giftcard to starbucks, some like funny socks. One male teacher has a collection of hundreds of crazy ties, and he wears them ALL.

Just send her a note and say how much your child likes her class, and ask if there is something small she would like.

I guess the best thing is to ask your son what the teacher talks about. My son is in 7th grade and I get a pretty good picture from just the personal things that they tell the class every week. Like his social studies teacher loves Del Taco. His science teacher worked with sea animals and loves dolphins. So ask your son I bet he knows alot once he thinks about all the things that he has heard in class. Hope that helps.

At our school (I am a teacher and a parent), the teachers fill out "treat sheets". The times the teachers haven't had a treat sheet, I just made up one myself. I included things like "Favorite candle scent", "favorite flower", "Hobby", "Favorite store", "favorite fast food", "favorite beverage", "Favorite snacks", etc. Then I try to use these things throughout the year, like at Christmas, Valentine's, Teacher Appreciation Week, etc. Also, just writing a letter of thanks about how much you appreciate the teacher, citing specific examples when possible can be a HUGE gift to her.

I would ask your son. He has probably picked up on the things she likes, most teachers usually slide in a little "personal" chat sometimes when addressing the class. Or maybe she loves a certain theme, like if she always wears jewelry or accessories or sweater embroidery of a certain type (apples, birds, cats, etc.) or if she keeps figurines or collectibles on her desk of a certain theme. I think your son would be the best help here since he spends the most time with her, he would sort of know her personality!

As a teacher I can suggest a few items that I have gotten over the years that I really liked:
•items for teachers (seasonal notepads, small baskets, magnet clips, etc.) = cute stuff you don't buy for yourself!
•fleece throws
•picture frames
•food certificates (even McDonald's)
•lotion
•some special books that I can use in my classroom.

Heere are some that I have gotten that I didn't care for:
•Christmasy items (especially ornaments)
•candles
•coffee mugs
•candy (usually something I don't care for)

I hope this helps you!!

I made hot chocolate mix and biscotti for my DD's teacher last year in K5. Her 1st grade teacher is a friend of mine who is aware that I like to make the biscotti for different occasions, and requested it! Of course, I'd already planned to do that, LOL.

Hi Tiffany,

Listed below is a cute idea for a teacher that won't break the bank. I found some cute Snowman plastic gift bags and put the mix in it then put that inside a holiday snowman cup. It was cheaper to buy the premixed cocoa so I went that route instead of making the recipe. It's been a huge hit. I found the recipe and instructions at MixingBowl.com

Snowman Soup
Recipe By : Grandpaskip
Source: Southern Plate Website -- Christy Jordan Brief Description:
A fun gift for someone at anytime Servings : As many as you desire
Prep time : 1 minute each
Cook time : None
Total time : As little or as much as you want Ingredients:
To make Snowman Soup, place 1/3 Cup mix into sealed bag (or an envelope of store bought mix) and package with a small candy cane, ten miniature marshmallows, two chocolate kisses, with instructions and poem.
THE POEM:
When it's so cold that you holler & whoop
It's time to bring out the Snowman soup
Pour the packet in a mug. Add marshmallows too.
And throw in the kisses from the snowman to you.
Now add some hot water, use the cane to stir it.
Sip slowly & you'll feel the warm winter spirit.

Here's the recipe for the Hot Chocolate:
Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

Ask if the teacher has a classroom wish list, teachers have to pay a lot of out of pocket expenses for classroom supplies.
Books for the class to enjoy are always welcome by most teachers (especially elementary.
Gift cards to a teacher supply store or even a craft store.
Of course, gift cards to a store (Target, Walmart) or a restaurant are welcome as well.

The other answer I did was for the teacher, now just the opposite applies.

Buy a golden Christmas Ornament, and some red paint, then paint something on it, sign the childs name. Make sure to date it. This was she, her children, and grand chuildren can enjoy it forever.

God Bless Merry Christmas

Get her gift certificates to a movie theater or movie rental place. It's different from the usual (candles, candy, etc.) and speaking as a teacher, I can tell you that an excuse to go out and enjoy myself is always welcome. How nice of you to think of your child's teacher during the holidays!

In certain circumstances it is unethical for teachers to accept gifts so make sure it wouldn't look bad. Every one goes out to eat with family or friends during christmas time...maye a giftcard?
Gift cards are impersonal but she can spend it how she wants to:
a teacher supply shop
walmart/target super center
restuarant
does she do other school act? something for that
clothing store

Scrap books are really fun and personal. see if your son can take a camera for some "fun pics" and then use them in a small book for her.
