Hi ladies!
I have a ring I just adore and somehow when I moved it got stuck in a jewelry box with a bunch of other jewelry and I didn't sort through that box for over a year. I know! Terrible! But in my defense in that year we bought a house and then had a baby three weeks later! Anyway the ring is badly tarnished and I really don't know what to do to make it nice again, I would really like to wear it. It is genuine silver, with the 925 imprinted in the metal so I am thinking I should be able to salvage it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all the help ladies! I did the baking soda thing and it took the tarnish right off, I am wearing my ring right now! Thanks again :)

Just get a silver cleaning rag or use some wright's polish, it'll clean it right up!

There is a product I discovered about 10 yrs ago called Flitz Metal polisher. It comes in a tube and is a smooth paste. It is amazing! It's hard to find, maybe Ace or small hardware stores, and definitely online. It does a better job than anything else I've ever used, and I grew up in the generation when I polished my Mom's silver, and everyone had silver, unlacquered brass, etc. Go get it!

a baking soda paste will do the trick. just mix baking soda (from the pantry) with a little water to form a dough like paste, scrub on in a circular pattern and wipe off - the tarnish should come right off. Repeat as necessary! :)

Toothpaste--not the flavored kind, but the heavy duty, pasty (not gel) stuff.

I don't have any home remedies for this but James Avery sells a polishing cloth that seems to work pretty well. Maybe after you get the majority of the tarnish off, you could get one of those cloths to help you keep it shiny. Its super easy and works well on all silver.
Good Luck! =)
