How Soon Can You Get Pregnant?

My husband and I have 1 child and are working on the second one. My question is, how soon after stopping birth control and you get pregnant? I also have endometriosis and they recently found a fibroid (very small) on my uterus, so I am a little concerned with that. I would prefer not to hear any "bad" stories, but would like some advise. Just FYI, I didn't have any trouble getting pregnant the first time.

What can I do next?

I had been on BC for close to 9 years straight when I became pregnant the first time of trying. I went off the pill, waited for my period and then 2 weeks after my first period without the pill started trying and boom was pregnant. The second time I was breastfeeding my daughter still and I went off the mini pill in Nov, stopped breastfeeding in Jan, didnt see a period until Feb and they were very very irregular on their own. I didnt get pregnant until early June. So we were trying from Nov until June and there was no birth control the whole time. I agree that everybody is different and that it will happen differently for everyone
Good Luck and baby dust all over you

I have heard you can get pregnant right away. Even if you miss a pill you can get pregnant but I'm not to sure it's like that for everyone. So when you do get pregnant congrats!

Birth control plays nasty tricks on your body and each person comes off it differently. When you use birth control it makes your body do something it was never intended to do. I also have endometriosis but never took birth control. It took four months for the first, three years for the second, three for the third, one for the fourth, one for the fifth, and I wasn't trying for the sixth. I would suggest you whip out as much processed sugars and caffeine and eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Exercise helps also.

My sister got pregnant with one of her kids the first month she was off the pill.

I have endometriosis and I have to have minor surgery to have scar tissue removed first.

ooh my!!! it took us almost 4 years of trying to get pregnant then we were pregnant 5 years in a row!!! We only have 2 beautiful boys to show for it - but God blessed me with them! :)

it all depends upon your body and your situation....the more stress you put on your body to get pregnant - the more it will fight you. I would stop "trying" and just have sex for fun!!! YAHOO!!!! Don't think about getting pregnant...just have fun!!!

I was on BC for 7 years straight. I went off in January and got pregnant in February. It was quick. I'd never had any pregnancies prior to that so we weren't "trying" or preventing. I just assumed it took awhile. We were shocked when we found out I was pregnant. I don't know if I have a fibroid, so no opinion on that one.

Everyone's body is different - I got pregnant while on the pill twice (regular pill the first time, mini-pill the second) so for some of us, it literally only takes being off-cycle by a day or two (or a few hours on that darn mini pill) to ovulate and get preggers. Good luck!

Well, I also have 2 tiny fibroids and they did not affect the process at all. Are you talking the Pill or other methods of BC? We use condoms and played with fire (so to speak) one night one month after weaning my son. Baby #2 is due Jan. 1st. Try to relax and have fun with the "process" :) Every body responds differently to the Pill and the hormones may take longer in some to dissapate.

I was on birth control for years. We got married in April 2009, I went off BC in May, got pregnant in July! Don't try too hard...just enjoy it and have fun! They say any stress can hinder getting pregnant! Good luck. Very exciting time for your family!

It is possible to get pregnant immediately. Although, it is recommended you wait one cycle to ensure your cycle is back on track. That's the doctor recommendation...

Like everyone else has said though, it is all dependent on you and your body. How fast did you get pregnant with your first child? How long has it been? How old are you? All these things play a role as well.

I advise women to wait till they have their next period off birth control pills before trying to conceive. The logic behind this is that 1st month off BCPs seems to increase the chances of conceiving multiples which increases complications and risk during pregnancy. Also, we now know that taking BCPs can interfere with folic acid absorbtion so being off of them a month gives your body a chance to "catch up" nutritionally and give you the best chance of a healthy pregnancy. Best wishes on growing your family. Nurse Midwife Mom
