Um, so i was changing the sheet on the matress of my 7 month old and noticed that once i got the matress back down in the bed there are BIG holes in the corners of the bed? This matress is the same matress that all of my children have slept on at some point in time, but it all of a sudden seems to be misshaped. Do they have a life span and is it ok for me to let my baby sleep in there?? It is almost big enough for her head and absolutly big enough for her leg or arm, but she would have to pretty creative to get down in there i think...

What can I do next?

It should not have holes, and if this one seems misshapen and it didn't have these gaps before, I would get a new one absolutely. Even if she didnt suffocate, she could break an arm or leg. Not worth it to me.

If all of your children have slept on this crib mattress, it may be that it has been "crushed" to a point. It sounds like it is just plain worn out. I would say go ahead and spend some money on a new one. Especially if you plan on using it on a toddler bed later on. Better to be safe than sorry.

I would buy a new one. Also, there have been studies that show previously used infant mattresses can be breeding grounds for dangerous bacteria. And those germs could contribute to an infection that might be tied to SIDS.

Don't risk it. Get a mattress that fits. You'd be surprised how your baby could get stuck in ways you would never imagine. You don't want to take the chance of her getting stuck in such a way that she could hurt herself.

The mattress should fit tightly in the crib. There should not be any spaces for a little one to get into. If it were me, I would definately get a new matress. I am not one to take any chances when it comes to the safety of my nlittle ones.

I would definitely buy a new one. You've gotten good use out of this one...toss it. You don't want to take any risks. I am always surprised at how babies die of entrapment...they are usually "creative" ways. Buy another one.
