I placed a request earlier in the week regarding childcare questions-Thank you to everyone who responded. I am still trying to figure out what is a reasonable rate to pay for childcare for a few days a week (maybe 2-3 days) for a in-home daycare for our 1 year old daughter. Like I said in my earlier request I have found anywhere from $9-12/hr. but am just curious what is the going pay rate for a one year old little girl so we can get an idea of what to budget when she does start going.

I run an in home day care. The going rate, from my comparisons, seem to be the following. 4 hours or less a day is $15.00. Anything above that is $30.00 per day. This amount can be above or below depending upon your location and the caregiver personally. There is no set rule but this is what is "normal". I hope this helped.

In Darien...I pay $40/day (7:30-4:30) and $25for a half-day (<4hrs). This is for a part-time in-home provider.
Good luck!

I have a mom of one of my sons friends that watches my little girl for 3 - 4 days a week for about 5 hours a day and we pay her $150.00 cash a week. It is in her home (3 blocks from mine). Before I was paying $7.00 an hour for when my son was one and that was in their home.
I did have a relative come into my home for a short period when my kids were 2 and 1 and we paid her $200 a week for 4 days. she came at 9 and left at 4. She also had a 25 mile drive and started dinner for me. So it kind of depends on what you want her to do while she is there - clean, cook or just watch the kids. Another thing to think about is - one of my friends had someone come into her house and watch her tripletts and the sitter would make all these grand lunches (steak, roasts, specialty frozen foods for "special" nights with kids etc) for herself and give the kids peanut butter. Her food bill almost doubled because of it. Be very specific of what they are allowed to have and be into.

Good luck!

Hello-
I pay $10/hour for 2 children; one is in kindergarten in the p.m. I would say that $12 an hour seems a bit high- You may want to shop around- I placed an ad in the newpaper/internet and received several calls from 20 something girls that were interested in working for $8 or more...
I got several calls and then interviewed the few that I was interested in-

I looked into daycare before my son was born. I firmly believe that you get what you pay for. One daycare may be more affordable than another but you can't put a price on the peace of mind knowing that your child is well taken care of even it costs you a little more. You can't look for a good deal when it comes to the person/daycare who will be taking care of your child. Good Luck!

Hi N.,
I am not sure where you live, but I am a Licensed Daycare Provider who lives on the West Side of Joliet. I charge $30 dollars a day for part time care. That is 3 days or less. It doesn't matter the time frame, though I do work from 7 to 5. Regardless of time, it's 30 a day. My email is ____@____.com if you would like to email me more questions. Good Luck finding care!!
