Neighbors are having a birthday party for 21 birthday next weekend. Guys are headed to a local casino and we will be over for pizza. What should we give as a present? Cash? If so, how much?

What can I do next?

Well are you close to these people? Like, have you watched this man grow up? If so, can you give him money towards college tuition? I always say to give ONLY what you can afford to give comfortably. If you can only give $25 and not miss it, then that's all you should give.

Don't do the alcohol theme (beer, etc.). Not all 21 year olds drink nor should we act like its weird if they don't.

$25 cash. He can use it at the casino.

I would give him a $21 gift card (or two if you are close to the family) and 21 bars of his favorite candy (arranged in a cute jar or bucket.) You could buy the small little bars so it would be so expensive!

Depends on how close you are to the birthday boy and/or his family and what you can afford. How much do you usually spend on birthdays outside the family? That's a good measure. I think of 21st birthday as being special but would only make the gift special if I were giving something that would be appropriate for that birthday and not others. For example, I would take someone out for drinks at a posh place or a place that they want to go to. But cash is just cash and I'd give whatever I'd usually give for any other year and person in that level of friendship.

Unless you're wealthy, I'd give $25 or so if he was just the child of a neighbor I wasn't close to.

I would give 21 crisp new $1 bills and a beer stein or something like that.
