How Much Should I Pay Daycare Assistant

I am a home daycare provider and will be having wrist surgery on Friday. As a single mom with no other source of income I can't afford to take any time off. During my recovery I will not be able to lift the babies, change diapers, etc. I may also need help with meal prep and loading the dishwasher. I will be here the whole time and be able to interact with the children and teach the preschool program I do with them. What hourly rate should I offer? I have never hired a babysitter or mother's helper before. Neither of those accurately describe what I need, but I can't think of a better description. I live in a northwest suburb of Chicago.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your answers. I found a great lady for $10/hr.

How many kids are in your care?

I am thinking that an assistant in a daycare center would probably be making about $10/hour. I'd try to offer the going rate.

Perhaps you could contact local daycares and ask the director how much (a $ range) their assistants are paid.

Edited to Add: I worked as an assistant in a daycare from 2001-2004 and was paid $8.10/hr.

Minimum wage for sure.

In my area my daughter (18) babysits weekly and brings in $80-$100 a night which averages $12-$15 an hour

I'm in a different area, but I pay our sitters $9-$10 per hour. I would probably pay a helper a comparable rate.

Most daycare workers in a child care center make minimum wage. You should at least pay minimum wage.

Figuring babysitters for one child are paid between $12 and $15 an hour, I would think $15 at least.
