D..
LOL! NO! I love my kids' hair too much to have shaved their heads, ever! However, to each his own!
I'm wondering how many of you moms out there shave your son's head for the spring and summer? When I was little I remember my mom shaved my head for the spring. I'm just wanting to know if other moms do it to their son's head in the spring & summer or even just summer.
LOL! NO! I love my kids' hair too much to have shaved their heads, ever! However, to each his own!
No, never. My husband is handy and can cut each boy's hair into a style that suits him. I will never let him shave their heads. Not as children anyway.
I don't do it myself, but I do have them get buzz cuts with the #1 blade on the trimmer in the summer. I wish I could do it myself. Last fall I tried longer hairstyles for them and they complained about the hair touching their ears etc, so we went back to short.
Nope, never did. It reminds me too much of a Nazi/skinhead look.
No.
I have never done that. And never will. Of course, he is 14 now, and he is pretty picky about what happens with his hair.
I do! Every summer! I have my own clippers and do it myself. Not all the way down to the skin shaved but pretty darn short!
My youngest has the BEST curls EVER but I still shave him down too, it's just easier in the summertime, it's cooler and it doesn't get in their eyes when they are swimming, which I and they hate.
It always grows back before school starts!
My oldest son looks better with shorter hair, so I shave his head down probably 2-3x a year (if not more actually), he just has the hair for it!
OMG no. My son has gorgeous curls. NEVER. I only hope he never decides he needs super short hair. I take him to the same stylist I use.
We don't here. My boys get their hair cut a couple times a year or so. When we get it cut we leave a nice length to it and get around to cutting it again when it starts to really bug them.
My husband keeps some length to it as well while keeping it professional.
Not really a fan of the buzz cut or shaved heads until you're balding and have no choice. Before that it just looks funny to me.
Every year unless he wants something different, we all wait thru the winter and get our hair cut/shaved in the spring. If we make it that long.
We have given ours a buzz cut/or military looking cut...never a bald shave. Is that what you meant? More of a buzz cut? We did it the first time when he was 4 and he looked so different! Loved it! He is 13 now, so sometimes we buzz it off because he plays baseball and football, so those helmets can be hot, but it's up to him. Sometimes, it's just a buzz (like a 1 or 2 on the clippers) around the sides and back, leaving the top a lil longer.
I have to admit...this past summer was the first one we did not buzz his hair and guess what, he's a blondie! LOL!
We cut the boys' hair short every summer. Usually a buzz cut or some variation. It's so much easier to keep clean and check for ticks after the boys have been in the woods all day.
When you say "shave" I think bald! I don't do that, but I do buzz cut them when the weather gets warm and continue straight through the summer. I love my boys hair too, but they're so much cooler (meaning temperature, not cool style lol) w/a buzz cut, and it grows back! Also, my older son has psoriasis on his head. When I buzz cut him and the sun can reach his scalp he is psoriasis free the whole spring/summer and into fall!
Hi J.-
I have a LOT of kiddos. They are all older now (16 to almost 24) but I always have cut their hair.
Make no mistake - I am not a certified stylist...I began cutting hair for them as a cost saving measure (and with my kiddos it WAS $$ saving).
On the boys (years ago) the "mushroom" cut was popular...(not hard to do)...and over the years they boys have preferred a buzz/shave year round.
They boys are older now...and could even either buzz their own heads...or pay a stylist. Most often they ask me to do it. It has become sort of a family ritual!
Best Luck!

I give buzz cuts year round for my son and husband.
1/4 inch long in the winter and 1/8 inch long in the summer.
My husband likes it because the grey is less noticeable the shorter his hair is and he doesn't want it shaved off completely because he doesn't want to sunburn.
Both guys like it because it's SO EASY to wash/dry.
When their hair is short they get no dandruff.
We have lot's of military in our area so buzz cuts are common.
well, there's shaving like Vin Diesel & Bruce Willis.....& then there's buzzing like my sons prefer. :)
Both of my sons prefer to be buzzed with the clippers. They vary the length, depending on their mood & the season. & sometimes they do it, sometimes their friends do it (teen years), & sometimes the barber or stylist does it. & I think they were about 8 when they both made the choice to eliminate the bulk.
I remember it being done to my brother. Not sure if we'll make that choice with our son.
thanks for the walk down memory lane.

We have it cut pretty short.. almost a crew, but a slight bit longer...
From your first question (also on this topic) I gather you are a 19 y/o male?
Don't you arrange for your own haircuts by now?
My son keeps his short year-round with a 1/2" buzz cut. Works for us. Easy to keep clean and makes hair-washing a breeze.
I use to.
Now I have one with long long dreadlocks and 2 with minimal grow out.
None of them will go totally shaved anymore.
Everyone would comment on how the buzz to the scalp made them look like cancer patients. So, I wont make them go there anymore:)
I have buzzed my head for the summer. It helps keep him cool and its easy to take care of.
We don't, but do try to keep it shorter when it heats up. We live on an Army Post though, and it is not uncommon to see little boys with their hair cut off jus like Daddy, all year round!
My son ASKED for it last summer (a buzz cut "like a soldier" he said). I was like "Ummm.....can we compromise? How about real short but not almost-bald?".
The barber used the #2 setting on his sides and back, #3 on the top. It ended up being a great cut for little boys though, he was swimming constantly, horseback riding, rolling around with the dogs, playing outside all the time, and it was easy to maintain and easy to keep clean....we didn't have to worry about his very blond hair turning green with chlorine or anything annoying like that.
I remember when we were little and my brother was on the swim team that he'd get a little crew cut (buzz cut, whatever), for the same reasons. I let it grow that last month of summer, and we do different things with it during the fall-early spring months, but once it gets real hot again, we'll probably "go soldier" with it again. It gets very hot here.
My husband and both sons get short buzz cuts for summer. Not bald or anything. They have dark thick hair, so even quite short doesn't look bald.
I don't dictate their hair style choices, they all like it that way. It works out well because they also all have insane weird cowlicks that make most haircuts impossible.
used to do it for them, but my clippers got dull and I never replaced them. Now they all go to a barber.
No way don't like it at all
Buzz, no guard every five weeks. He can wash his own hair in the shower by himself, he's been doing himself since age 4! I just do a shampoo check before he is done.
I do not care for the buzz cut, so no I have never shaved their heads. Both my boys have longer skater style haircuts so a buzz cut would give me a heart attack.
the years my kids asked for it were sure easy!
my boys were all over the map, sometimes shaved right down to almost invisible stubble, sometimes pony tails.
my older had me do his with the horse clippers a couple of times, but i'm not really adept at it. barbers are better.

Never, ever. I do keep his hair pretty short year-round -- just a classic little-boy haircut -- but I'd never shave it. I've honestly never seen anyone do that on a little guy -- could be a regional thing.
nope, don't shave their heads. It's a "flat top" so it's short - but they like it like that.
Welcome!
My stepsons' mother would give them buzz cuts, because she bought the clippers and did them herself, but it was the only haircut she knew how to give them. Admittedly I hated it, and with their parents ok, I would just take them to an actual salon and let them get haircuts that were still short, but at least had a little style. For me it was worth the money.
Only time I came close was when he got lice - LOL.
So, no we don't shave our boys' hair.
I used to when he was younger just because it was easier and cleaner. Now he is 8 and he wants the long hair that flips out under a baseball hat. Too bad his hair is straight as straight can be and it wont ever flip :( Oh well he is super cute either way. His ears do stick out quite a bit though so now that he is getting older I am sure that he will want longer hair to help make those not look so noticable.
I never could bear to do that... my son had wonderfully curly hair! (My 3 girls all had dead straight hair... go figure!)
For a while, he chose to go with a short cut to cut the curls off, but now, at 21, he WANTS the curls....... unfortunately, he is a cook, and either has to keep it short enough to wear under a hat at work, or wear a hairnet...... so he keeps it cut just long enough to still have the curls, but short enough to satisfy the kitchen managers.....
I shave my sons hair year round. I dont like his hair long
