How Long Were Your Labors?

Hi ladies!

So, I'm pregnant (and 5 days overdue!) with my third baby. My first labor was 16 hours, my second was about 6. I've been told by some nurses to average the two and that's what I should expect for my third. But then others tell me I need to get RIGHT to the hospital as soon as labor starts because it will go even faster than the last.

I'm just curious, did your labors get shorter and shorter or were they totally random?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the congrats ladies :)

Turns out this baby is just too darn comfy where she is! I'm now 9 days overdue and am going in for an induction tomorrow. I've been having contractions (real ones) since Thursday but still no baby. So I guess we'll see how long this one takes after a little coaxing :)

all 3 of mine were exactly the same. At the hospital at 6am and holding my baby by Noon.

I would be prepared to go in at the first sign of labor...just in case!

Congrats on the new baby!
I love having 3 kids BTW!

My first was 7 hrs , second was 3hrs and my 3rd was an emergency c section and I didn't get the chance to go into labor. I think you are best off assuming it will be quicker again and be prepared , you will be able to tell from the contractions if they are getting stronger at a fast pace and head to the hospital.

Good luck

My 1st lasted about 3.5 hours active labor but I was in labor for 3 days. My 2nd I was in active labor about 45mins at most and labor totaled about 3 hours. I was only at the hospital for the active labor part of both births. Congrats on the new addition and just as a precaution I'd leave at the 1st signs of labor.

first one was 16 hrs, second one was 14 hours and last one was c-section, however with the last my water broke never with the first two. My mother had 4 children and each came quicker than the last...

I break the mold, I guess. My son was 4 hours, and then my daughter was 16! Her head was positioned at an awkward angle, but it makes me wonder for my third!

First labor 12 hours of stage 1, around 6 hours stage 2.
Second labor induced with castor oil - 4 hours stage 1, 2-3 hours stage 2
Third labor the whole thing was a little over 4 hours from start to finish.
(all born at home, first two sunny side up, second two sack intact)

21 for me and then I had to have a csection because my baby's heart rate was dropping.

My first baby was quick... my water broke at 8:30am and she was born at 11:10am. My second was early and it's really all a blur, but it was definitely longer than the first.

I don't know if you can predict how long labor will be, but I wouldn't waste any time. By the third one I think your body knows what to do and if there aren't any complications, it seems like it should be faster.

Good luck on an easy labor and a healthy baby!!

4-1/2 hours, 2-1/2 hours, 2 hours, 1 hour.

With number 4, we waited for my mom to get to our house to watch the 3 older kids but had to call a neighbor to come over last minute (5am!) because the labor was moving along so quickly. Good thing we didn't wait any longer or this would have been a home birth!

YES..Go to the hospital ASAP!!! :)

My 1st labor was 12 hours, my 2nd labor was 11 hours, 3rd labor...my water broke at home at around 5:45 pm...contractions didn't start until 6:15...they were AWFUL right away...my little one was born at 7:31 pm in the triage room on the maternity floor...we didn't even make it into a regular room. The baby didn't even have a warming cart in the room. Congrats and Good Luck!!! :)

My Mom was 36 hrs with me and 6 hrs with my sister. I just have one son and he took 36 hrs. Generally, the more often you do this, the more your body knows what to do and things tend to move along faster. By the time my Uncle's wife had #7, she could hardly make it to the hospital before delivering.

My first one was 12 hours. Second was 6. Third was 4. And the fourth...well the fourth one my water broke and I wasn't having contractions. My midwife said to call when I started having them. I started having contractions about an hour later (that's when I noticed them) and he was born about 45 minutes after that...just as the midwife walked in. So the last one was between 2 hours and 45 minutes depending on how you look at it.

Congrats on the new addition!

Hi,
I've only had 2 and the intense part of the second one was way shorter, but the time from knowing I was in labor to having a baby in my arms was about the same, around 10 hours.
I am, however, the third child of my mother and she has said that her labor was start and stop with me and that they were out walking around the block (I was a home birth baby) because her labor had stalled. So I guess the lesson is, it's still labor and still as unpredictable as ever. Wait until you go into labor and trust your gut as to what to do. Good luck!

1st baby: 72 hours. No joke. It was a nightmare that wouldn't end.
2nd baby: 12 hours from the first contractions to delivery.
