I store my sweaters (and all out-of-season clothes) in a rubbermaid bin. If odor is a problem, I've heard that cedar blocks are great--they smell nice and repel insects.
I was just cleaning out my closet and realized that most of my sweaters are a bit stinky. They don't smell from body odor but simply smell old and perhaps musty or something? They're all folded and piled in a cabinet on our mail floor near our bedroom. My question is how do you store your sweaters? Does this happen to yours? How can I clean them to remove the smell and then properly store them so it doesn't happen again? Thank you so much for your help!

Absolutely agree with the post about laundering and space bagging with dryer sheet, works great AND saves room!
Sweaters will get a certain smell to them as they get older - just like old yarn you might find in Grandma's closet. You could help them absorb a better smell by placing some dryer sheets with them or freshen them up by hanging them outside, but you cannot stop the aging process of organic material. It might help to store the sweaters inside a plastic storage bin, but make sure everything is completely dry so you do not get mold.
the space saver vacuum bags work good. I hope you know what I'm referring to, I can't recall what exactly the name of them are, but you hook them up to your vacuum and suck the air out of them.
Spacebags are great for sweaters, bedding, clothes, etc. Be sure to launder your sweaters and store with a fabric sheet or nice lavendar pouches.
When you open the bags, everything smells as fresh as the day you stored them. The bags work nicely because they can be airtight and moisture-free if vaccumed closed properly.
