How Do You Store Games?

My son is into board games right now. They are floating everywhere and the pieces usually come out and get all over the house. I have yet to find a way to store these games. They are all different sizes. Some how the box is what attracts him to playing the game so ditching the box, while tempting, seems to destroy the idea of the game for him. How do you store these so they are easily accessible to the child, but not all over the house and falling apart?

What can I do next?

I don't care if they are easily accessible to my kids so I keep them up in the foyer closet. They know how to ask, ya know? Also on the shelf I have a small bin that I throw stray pieces I find so I don't have to pull the box out and put it in every time I find a piece. I can assure you the box that the missing piece belongs to is always on bottom. :(

Oh if they play them a lot I let them keep one or two on the shelf under the cocktail table.

Try to keep all the pieces in different baggies.

I read once that you take out all the cardboard in the box that holds all the pieces. Then put all the loose pieces in little zip baggies inside the BIG box. I hope that makes sense. Also, its easier to store them on a shelf side by side instead of on top of each other. We have a lot of games and I keep them in the top of the hall closet. Its where we keep all our winter jackets and the vaccuum. But the kids can't reach them unless they get a stool so we usually have to get them out. We just made Wed night "Family Game Night" so we now play together every week, its been pretty fun. =)

we have an old entertainment / wardrobe type cabinet. it was part of a 3 pc set. used to have a 36 inch tv and vcr etc inside. the tv long ago switched to a big flatscreen which wouldn't fit. we ditched the shelving units that sat on either side but kept this cabinet part. it is in the corner of the room. inside it is all the games and some baskets of things like lego's knex, barbies etc. as far as keeping parts together inside the game box. put a ziplock bag in to hold all the small parts.

We set up a shelf in a hall closet and store the games on the bottom two shelves. That way our kids can reach them, and put them away. They stack about 3 high, so it is still easy to get to them.

Library System - with just about everything. The peices all go in a plastic bag that is clear and labled
Monopoly Place Holders - 5
Monopoly Houses
Monopoly Hotels
Monopoly Properties
Monopoly Money 1/5 - 10/20 - 50/100/500 (I think is how it is)
I have a sign in/out sheet on the closet TOO high for him to reach and we inspect the game before playing and after playing to ensure all is right. Anal, I know but we are talking about Monopoly here! This is partly why I also prefer the video game version when we have a lot of people over - much cleaner!
