I have my glucose test tomorrow, It didn't go well last time so just wondering if there are any tricks of the trade that can keep that nasty drink down long enough to do the blood work!
They said I could eat just not sugary stuff, was thinking protein like eggs or something in the am.
Help appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I had peanut butter toast.
They said I did not need to fast. I also drank some of the drinking sitting then I stood up for the rest of it.
I took the fruit punch much better than the orange!
I passed, sorry for not being clear.
First child had issues with the test so was stressing about this test, much easier than the first time and didn't have to redo!
Follow what YOUR dr says though as I had to fast with my first child, not sure why I didn't with this one perhaps since I said I didn't hold it down they wanted me to eat a bit.

Back in my day..you had to fast. I proceeded to throw up on about 3 different occasions. Just not the orange flavor..anything but orange! Maybe take some cheese cubes with you?

I remember keeping the drink really, really cold and sucking it through a straw. Other than that, I did nothing special.

What ever you do ---- do not eat cereal or oatmeal. Carbs break down to sugar in the body.

Every person I know who had a glucose test had a fasting blood sugar test. That means no food no liquids even water after a certain time. Call the clinic NOW and ask questions. The on call doctor will call you back and aswer your questions.

I did my test in the afternoon, after work. All my midwife recommended was to stay away from candy bars during that post-lunch slump... no other special preparation, definitely no fasting. I didn't think the drink was so terrible... I mean I wouldn't buy it, but it's not that much (8 oz or something like that) and I just drank it cold. I had my test at something like 24 weeks, so way past any nausea...

I, too, mistakenly had orange juice. They declared I would probably be coming back for the longer test, but I passed with flying colors! Go figure.
Just have some cereal & milk or oatmeal.

I remember having to fast completely from midnight until after the test, no food or drink at all. Maybe it's different now (or you are taking a different test?) but you really should ask your DR, or at least call the nurse line if the office is closed.

Last time as in prior pregnancy? I was told to eat a light breakfast. The fruit punch flavor was much better than the cola. The cola made me sick but the fruit punch flavor was like drinking Hawaiian Punch. Good Luck!

My wasn't fasting, and I wasn't thinking and had a bunch of fruit for breakfast right before. Bad idea - fruit is high in sugar, and then I failed the test. Then I had to do the 3 hour fasting test - which I passed no problem.

Eggs would probably be fine. No fruit, no donuts, nothing high in sugar.

And yes, I agree with Wild One, ask for it COLD.

If you have problems with the drink there is the option of jelly beans. Ask them about this. It may seem like an easier option but let me tell you when you try to eat those 20 jelly beans in 2 minutes it really is hard, so be prepared.

Was told to ear normal for the 1 hour test, for the 3 hour test I just had yesterday could have nothing but water after 7pm and had to be there by 7 am to do the testing. U may wanna call the Dr office and see what their recommendations are. Every place has different things.

all i ate before i went for mine was a piece of toast.. and to behonest.. im probably a weirdo and alone on this.. but i thought it tasted kind of good.. everyone had me so scared about it.. i had a couple friends tell me they couldnt even finish it and threw up, so needless to say i was pretty much terrified for it .. honeslty it was no big deal.. and i ate the piece of toast an hour before i had to drink that stuff.. definatley dont eat anything sugary.. no one told my cousins wife that and she ate a cinnamon roll for breakfast before drinking it and had to go back and do the 3 hour test because he results were screwed up... o-0 and while i ate my toast i drank a huge glass of water and then about a half hour before i drank the stuff i had a small glass of water... my best advice would be dont try to chug it.. pace yourself.. i know you have a limited amount of time in which you need to finish it, but stretch it down to the last second if you have to.. no need to gulp it down and make yourself feel worse

The first time I made the mistake of drinking orange juice. Oops, didn't think about the sugar. Had to do the long test, which came out ok (thankfully). The second time I fasted and brought something with me to the doctor's office.

Not sure if this helps, but those drinks are not exactly fun!

Your doctor should have given you better instructions.

I don't remember what I was told to eat and had no problem drinking the glucose. It just made me very sleepy. I slept through the blood test parts.
They said that was an actually good sign because my insulin was doing what it was supposed to do.

My levels came back fine.

I had to have a ride home and was hungry and ate afterwards.
I didn't find it to be a horrible experience at all.

Best wishes.

I am not sure if you are repeating the 1 hour test or taking the 3 hour test, but when I took the 1 hour test I was told not to eat anything very sugary or carb laden. I ate an egg sandwich . . . one piece of whole wheat toast, 2 eggs and a slice of cheese. If you eat any carbs, make sure they are not white, those ones have the most sugar and will throw off your results. No white bread or white potatoes etc, and I was told to stay away from sugar cereal, fruit and sweetened yogurt.

When I did my glucose test it was a fasting glucose test...so I couldn't eat.

The drink reminded me of Sunkist or Fanta on "steroids". I wanted mine REALLY COLD.

GOOD LUCK!!

I love the glucose test because it's a sweet, yummy drink! All I ever have is water or milk so it's a treat! Every now and then I allow apple or orange juice.

I can't remember what I was allowed. But I didn't find the nasty drink that bad. Oversweet, yes, but as long as I kept it cold it was OK. Just don't think too hard about it. If you think you will need too long to drink it, bring ice and put the bottle of the orange stuff on top (keep in bottle) to keep it chilled.
