How Do You Get Furniture Polish off a Cooking Stone?

I have a pampered chef cooking stone, and today while out mowing the yard for my husband my 3 1/2 year old was inside supposed to be going to the bathroom. Well he got in to the Orange Glow, and sprayed it on my cooking stone. It was sitting on the stove were I left it to cool after using it at lunch today. I suspect it is probably ruined because you can not use soap on it. Thought some one might have some ideas though.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for the great advice. What I decided was to put in the dishwasher, and see what happened. Since, it survived the dishwasher, I baked some biscuits on it and they had no after taste. Stone is back in business.

Hi S.,
Do you have the number of the Pampered Chef Consultant that sold you the stone? I'd call her or the company directly and ask them if there is an acceptable method of removing the polish. You can contact them at 1-888-687-2433 or pamperedchef.com

Good luck...I know I'd be lost without mine.

Go to www.pamperedchef.com and see if they have information. The paper that comes witht he stone usually has instructions for a deep cleaning which involves baking soda. A pdf copy of the paper should be on the website. Also if it is less than 3 years old and you have the receipt, you may be able to get a replacement.

Good luck.

Hello, I am a PC consultant from Oklahoma. I sent my director your question and she said...

"Oh wow, never heard that one! If it was well seasoned, the polish probably didn't even 'soak' in. I would go ahead and use soap on it and scrub it well, then let it sit in water for awhile to dilute any soap residue on it. Using soap isn't the end of the world, especially if it is rinsed well. Then it's her call if she feels ok with it."

I hope this helps. If you need a new stone I have several shows closing inthe next two weeks and can get you a new one ordered.

Hope this helps.

I used to sell Pampered Chef and my helpful husband has put my stones in the dishwasher I don't know how many times. It has never hurt them so I just have stopped saying anything to him. You can try a paste of baking soda and water and letting it stay on the stone for about half and hour and then using the stone tool to loosen the Orange Glow and then rinse off.

You may try cooking it out in the oven. Don't know if that works but it takes the stinky smells off mine. I think I'd contact Pampered Chef. They should have a remedy for mistakes like that. I know those are expensive so I'd try several things. Good luck & thanks to your Husband for devending our country.

In addition to contacting Pampered Chef, you might want to contact Orange Glow and see if they recommend just throwing it away. They would know if heating the stone would make the Orange glow residue toxic.

The reason you cannot use soap on it is becasue you will have to season it all over again not becaue it will ruin it. So wash it in some super hot water and soap strip it of all the garbage he got on it and just cook really greasy foods on it for a few times voila you should b e good to go. BUT if it still smells orangy after all that i would toss it like the lady said below better safe than sorry.

Hello S.,
Not sure if it will work or not but you can wash your stone with soap. One of my best friends sells pampered chef.....you can use soap to wash it then put it in the oven with a cheap can of biscuits on it then trow the biscuits out. This will draw the soap back out of the stone. I don't know if it will get the oarnge glo out or not but it's worth a shot! I do know the soap won't ruin your stone I've done it a few times when I just felt my stone needed a good scrubbing. Good luck to you!!!

I think you should rub it down with corn startch. It should draw the oil out. Do it several times.

I would throw that cooking stone away! You are not going to able to get the furniture polish off of it and trying to heat it up again could cause it to become toxic.

I don't know about not being able to wash your stone with soap because I do it all the time and it's still working just fine. Fact is, I put it in the dishwasher, almost on a daily basis.

If it were me I'd contact corporate Pampered Chef and see if they can give you any pointers.

I think you are right about it being ruined. In any case, I wouldn't risk it. Contact your local Pampered Chef consultant to be sure, but be prepared to buy a new one.

After I had used my stone several times I decided it needed to be washed so I usually wash it, not in the water but with a soapy wash rag then I rinse it really well. When I make pizza and cheese melts on it I don't submerge it I just scrub the heck out of it. I haven't had any problems with a soap smell or a soapy film on it or anything.

They don't want you to use soap on them, but I have and have enven sent them thru the dishwasher with no harm done. My thought on this is....what harm can be done at this point. Wash, then season in the oven with a bit of pam, then wash again. Try making canned biscuits on them to see if they taste funny. Hope it helps.

I think it's probably impossible because it's not just on the stone, it's in it, having seeped in through the pores.

Orange Glo is "made with natural orange oil" but I wonder what else it is made with. Unless you can confirm that it is absolutely safe and non-toxic (and I'd think they'd proclaim that loudly and clearly if it were), I'd throw that thing away!

Sorry to hear :(

Yum, citrus oil of all things. I would contact Pampered Chef directly on that one. Heating it up could set the oil in, and you're probly going to need something that breaks the oils down first. It will definitely have to be reseasoned afterward. I have one myself, but havent used it yet for fear of messing it up. Good luck :]
