I don't know about even meeting them in a public place. They might follow you to steal the money back or something. I think using a neutral party would be the best way. That was both of you have anonymity.
Just be safe.
I am trying to sell a ring, expensive one and I do not have a clue what would be the safest way to accept the payment. I am afraid of false or no-funds checks I could receive payment by paypal but actually I do not have a clue of how you do this, anyone with experience?
Thank you

Unless you're selling it in a way that you are unable to accept cash (say ebay), I would do cash only.
Do not give people your address and meet in a public place. There was a case where I live a few years ago where someone was killed by a couple who posed as buyers for and expensive ring on craigslist...
If you are doing ebay or something similar I would do paypal.
I use paypal. I agree with the other posters that it is easy to set up. Money orders and cashiers checks can be faked, and then you have to decide if you should ship the item right away, or wait til the check completely clears which means the buyer is risking alot of money by sending payment first and waiting a long time to receive the item.
For expensive items, it's less risky for buyer and seller if you live within the same state. I knew an attorney who was bought an expensive item off ebay, send his payment to another state and never received the item. He was not able to get his money back or track down the seller.
Ask for cash. Or a cashiers check (from a bank) or a money order (from the Post Office). Palpay is easy to set up - go to their website and open an account. Then when you find a buyer, you give them your paypal name and they send the payment through Paypal. Then Paypal notifies you that the money is actually in your account and you can mail the ring or hand it over.
I agree with cash...in a VERY public place. You could even meet at a bank and have a teller verify that the cash is real. :-)
have them wire the money to your bank......whichever way you decide, make sure you check with your bank that funds are absolutely cleared
I have a Paypal account and it was easy to set up. They do take a small percentage off of the money that flows through their site, so if that is an issue, just request a money order or cashiers check from the buyer.
No matter what you ask for (cash, money order, cashier's check), unfortunately you always run the risk of it being fake. Myself, I would ask for one of those three methods, but definitely educate yourself on what to look for with each one to avoid being scammed. It's sad, but you really have to be careful these days. Even the most innocent looking people can fool you, so inspect each bill/check thoroughly, and don't be afraid to turn it down if it looks fishy. Good luck selling your ring!
It's been awhile since I used pay-pal but it seems like it was pretty easy to set up. I would just go to their website and it should walk you through it.
pay pal is good. If we accept a check or cashiers check, we not only call the bank to make sure it's legit but we also wait a few days to make sure it clears. How ever many days the bank recommends. Double check to make sure it clears even a cashiers check. Let the buyer know ahead of time and everyone does this now so it shouldn't be a shock to the buyer. If it is, that's a red flag. Good luck!!
Have you had the ring appraised? Will the jeweler put in on consignment?
If not, CASH only and in a place that is neutral, NOT alone, and make sure they do not follow you home.
