How Do I Take a Booster Seat on a Plane?

While it is true that rental cars do make them available, there is no reserving them. you may get there and not have one. I personally can't take that risk, I alsways carried ours on or checked them as extra luggage.

If your booster seat is of the backless variety, I've heard people putting them in carry-on bags.

If you must take a seat, gate check it. It's one of the last things to go and the first to come off.

I am kind of going thru the same thing. We are flying to Ga in a few months and have twins boys that need to go along. I was reading on Delta's website saying that the seat has to be approved by certain guidelines for them to use it in the plane. But if your concern is just in the car. I believe some rental car places have boosters you can rent. That might be an option if you don't need them for the airplane.

I think gate-checking it is the easiest way. Someone else said it, but I'll repeat that the airlines will not charge you for checking a car seat.

The car rental company has them...you do not need to bring yours and can just check one out from them. If you really want to bring it then stick in a duffel bag and check it. If you don't want to check it, you can always carry it through the airport and then gate check it right before you get on the plane (like you do for strollers).

If you don't travel a lot, a luggage cart would probably work. Just get those bungee hook things and attach the seat tightly - you can wheel it through the airport. Check the carseat at the gate to minimize any damage it might suffer as cargo.

you can check it in with the other bags. I have done that before. Although those were full car seats a booster, you might be able to carry it on the plane. The ticket people will know what to do.

If it is a high back booster, the airline will check it as baggage for free. If it is a backless booster, it should be able to fit under the seat in front of your child on the plane. This did for my daughter, and then we just placed her backpack on top of it all under the seat by her feet.

Booster seats are not approved by the FAA for use on airplanes. You could carry it on and put it in the overhead compartment or check it at the gate to make sure it does not get damaged or lost. If you prefer not to lug it through the airport can always check it. I believe that airlines do not charge for checking car seats but you would need to confirm that with your airline.
