My family and I always put up a Christmas tree after Thanksgiving. This year my little boy is 14 months and into EVERYTHING! He's very destructive! I would really like to be able to put up a tree, but I don't know how I'm going to keep him away from it and keep him from pulling it over on top of him. I'm just wondering if it's going to be worth the hassel. I don't want to have to tell him no constantly about the Christmas tree. Any advice??

What can I do next?

They have these gates you can buy and make it any size you want you can put it around the tree and as you receive or put gifts under it you can make it bigger and you can still see the tree.

With my youngest daughter I had this same problem and now that shes old enough not to touch I have a cat and a dog. What we do is get a smaller tree and an old end table that we can use from year to year. My husband drilled holes into the tree stand and secured it to the table, then draped it with a tree skirt. It will not fall over even when the cat jumps at the tree. This prevents any injurys. Then there are many beautiful bulbs and decorations that are plastic, use these to prevent breakage and cuts.

Put the tree in the playpen or get a small, table-top tree this year.

We put ours in a playpen one year and tied it with fishline a couple other years. Our kids didn't get into the tree, but our cats did. This worked wonders.

Infinite blessings!

When I was babysitting some little kids a few years ago, I knew they wouldn't leave a tree alone so we just bought a 4ft tree and put it on top of the tv and just decorated more everywhere else. Or if you think it would work, get one of those big round baby or pet gates that go all the way around the tree.

I have two little girls - ages 3 and almost 6. Until they were able to be around the tree and not pull it down, we got a smaller tree and put it up on a table. We have tall ceilings, so we were still able to get a 3 or 4 footer. If you'd rather not put it on a table, you could try putting the tree in a corner and surrounding with some sort of baby gate (just make sure it is secure.

Good luck!

I have 7 children and I have never had an issue. I do put softer non breakable ornaments on the tree. Then the statement is "just for looking - no touching". I think that kids appreciate the beauty of the tree and do not tend to destroy it. If you are not sure - make sure not to put on your best ornaments right away.

buy a Colorado Blue Spruce freesh cut tree - they are PINCHY if that child touches it - he probably won't again!

I don't believe in changing the home traditions - or putting knick-knacks up just because you have a toddler -- that child NEEDs to be taught right and wrong and - "that is just to look at not to hold!"

Train a child up in the way he should go and when he is old, he shall not depart from it.

I thought of putting up one of those fences when our first child was a toddler - but it wasn't needed - we just taught her NO --- we have great kids - cause we have taught them right from wrong.
