I had an item of clothing with black mildew spots on it and we used Oxyclean in hot water and let it soak until the water was cold (all day). The color faded a little but all the spots came out! Hope this works for you!
Well, my wonderful daughter left a week's worth of dirty clothes in a bag, apparently along with something wet. We discovered this today, and the clothes have been sitting there for about 3 weeks as best we can guess. So my question is this, is there anyway to get mildew stains out of clothes? These are some good clothes and I really do not want to have to throw them away. I'm so frustrated. Thanks in advance for your responses!

I had the same problem and tried everything and I mean EVERYTHING. Nothing worked. Sorry. Cut your loses. If you find something that does work, let me know.
Boil water, add biz powder and laundry detergent, boil clothes for ~ 20 minutes. The stain should be gone at this point. Throw in the washer. Wash "normally" - although I still use some Biz. Add vinegar to the second rinse.

the clothes that you or her don't really care about then throw them away the clothesthat are good go to the store and buy some mildew spray.
Well, I have a suggestion, but I do not know if it will work.
I know that the sun kills mildew (too bad we can't just take the shower outside for a day to sun out the mildew in the corners).
Hang the clothes in the sun for a few hours after washing in your regular detergent (bleach the whites). Repeat the process if necessary, but do NOT put them into the dryer.
It's worth a shot if you want to save them and the expense of buying new ones. (That's what I kept telling myself when I went back to Good Will to see if I could find my son's bag of dirty clothes that he had set into the donation box in the car when I picked him up from Grandma's. We DID find them -- thank God, but it was a trip all over town to catch the collection truck that had JUST picked up from the drop off site.)
Good luck.

I like the hang outside suggestion, I had no idea, but it makes sense, I would try that. Also I would soak it with laundry detergent and oxi over night with warm, not hot water. Maybe wash second time too. You should try it just because, what you have to lose? Good luck and let us know how did it go.
Hi A.,
How interesting that your post came through on today's daily e-mail! What great timing you have, since this same "Daily Digest" e-mail mentions a previous post that had a successfull resolution to your EXACT problem!!
Go to the following post and see what Mary Sue did to take care of her mildewed clothes problem...she describes a process that worked very well for her, based on the advice she receives from other mamas...

From my experience...throw them away and start over! Even if you get the stains out - the smell NEVER completely goes away. My son is highly allergic to mold and became very ill after my husband had left a load of clothes in the washer for a couple of days and then threw them in the dryer and folded them! It is not worth your health!
I've never found anything that worked either. You might contact a higher end dry cleaner/launder and see if they can assist you.
