How Do I Get Ball Point Pen off My Sofa?

Just discovered my son's little art project on my fairly new microfiber couch. Anyone have suggestions as to how to get rid of the pen marks? I knew I wouldn't be able to keep the couch immaculate having a toddler and all, but I didn't think it would be permanently ruined this soon! I've only had the couches a few months. I am sad... They are used but still the nicest pieces of furniture I own:(

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I tried dish soap, didn't work. Then I cleaned it with alcohol and it got most of it off. When it dries, I am going to do the baking soda trick since I don't have any hairspray lol! Thanks everyone for the ideas... I'm not sad anymore now that my couch has been rescued!

We have microfiber too and I have always been able to use a drop of dish detergent on a wet wash cloth. Pen and washable marker come right out.
Good luck!

Hair spray....ann landers 30 years ago wrote about it and i used her advice successfully. do a test patch on part of the sofa where you less care about it...

and in the worst case scenario, while i so emphathize with what you are going through....kiss your son and throw a beautiful scarf over the stain. It will make a nice story. :)

Hope this helps,
Jilly

See my recent post. I feel your pain. My aunt told me hair spray works. I have never tried it so I don't know for sure. Good luck!

Do you have the scotch gaurd on your couch? Water, and or Resolve will get it out. I got mine out.
Also, may be club soda and baking soda will get it out. :-) Baking soda does wonders for cleaning. Also, try vinegar. It's also a great cleaning agent. :-)

Have you tried treating the area with rubbing alcohol? Try a small area to make sure that it doesn't fade the material, but I have had success with it in the past.

Just before we were about to leave on vacation for Christmas, my daughter used a pen to write all over our microfiber couch. We used some of the solutions below, which helped a bit, but we didn't have time to really get it out before our plane took off. I stressed about it all break. We came back, got busy, and never finished trying to get it out. It wasn't so bad because our couches are a dark color. But you know what, over time, it has rubbed itself off! Microfiber is amazing!

Have you tried using a baby wipe? I know it sounds weird, but I have been able to remove stains like that with them.
