How Do I Find a Traffic Lawyer in Chicago?

Hi moms,

I received a citation last week for passing a stopped school bus - I can't believe I was so careless; I was sick and headed home after dropping my son off at school, and I just didn't see it. Ugh. Now I have to appear in traffic court, and I have no idea what to expect.

Do I need a lawyer? How do I find one? I've never even had a speeding ticket, so this is all new to me and I'm scared to death to lose my license or get something on my record that makes my insurance go up.

Any and all advice is welcome! (And pay attention to those school buses!)

Thanks!

If this is your first ticket for a long time than the judge may excuse you. If you plead guilty, than you have the option of taking the online class which I took and it was not bad at all. If you take the class and pay the fine, this will not go in your record. However, the fine is higher than the fine you normally pay if you do not take the class and plus you have to pay for the class.

I got a ticket for making a turn in front of a CTA bus when it was parked. I didn't get a lawyer, went to court, payed a fine and got supervision for 3 months. I also had a clean record. I wouldn't get a lawyer, just ask the judge for supervision. We all make mistakes, I learned from mine and I'm sure you learned from yours. If you get supervision it won't go on your record and your insurance won't get affected. Good luck.

If this is your first offense and you just made a mistake, represent yourself and take the consequence. The judge will most likely mitigate your circumstance and send you to traffic school which sounds like a good idea. We drive these dangerous instruments that can cause mass destruction in the midst of people who are not mindful of our potential for destructiveness due to our distractions. Admit to your mistake and take actions to not let it happen again. A good driver drives in consideration of all circumstances around them. If we are incapable of doing so perhaps we shouldn't drive. Otherwise buck it up and go outside your circumstances to give consideration to the circumstances surrounding you especially when it involves children. Whether you get a lawyer or not, obviously you need some training on responsible driving.
God bless!
