How Could I Forget to Use Birth Control?

So between pregnancies, miscarriages, and trying to get pregnant, I have not bothered with any method of birth control for two years. So now that new baby is 6 weeks old, we celebrated this morning if you know what I mean (Damn it was good). So good it didn't even occur to me that I could get pregnant! We are on the fence about a third child, but my goodness, it didn't even cross my mind that I might get pregnant! I'm breastfeeding. What do you think the chances are? (never been a fan of the pill, we use natural family planning and condoms)

What can I do next?

Well, there's a 50/50 chance you could get pregnant :)~

We did the same than, heat of the moment. I didn't end up pregnant but we would have been ok if I would have we would got pregnant. There's that Plan B pill. I don't know too much about it though.

You could have, but probably not. You're most likely fine. If you are really concerend, get a blood test done at the doctor's...otherwise I'd say you are fine :)

I think it is highly unlikely that you will become pregnant but it is possible. If you are super concerned go get Plan B.

I would say everything happens for a reason, BUT.....you shouldn't put yourself in that position if it's not what you want. I know women who have gotten pregnant while nursing.......

Better to be safe than sorry.......good luck.

Slim to none, but you should be careful from here on! My doctor had mentioned that it takes about 6 months for your cycle to become regular again- with or without the pill, which actually means you could ovulate at any point in time for that time period!

My best friend's mother likes to joke that she went for her 12 week follow-up appointment after having her son and the doctor looked at her and said "Congratulations, you're still pregnant!" It happens!

I got prego again when #1 was just 6 months old--breastfed and just started food that month.

I once read that BFing is about 98% effective only when you are feeding night and day at 3-4 hr intervals. If baby sleeps longer intervals at night, then your chances go up!

is it the pill or the hormones you don't like? I used Mirena so I wouldn't have to remember pills... there are hormones, but I think it's less.

I was breast feeding my son, and somewhere between his 6th and 7th week of life, WHAMMO! I got pregnant. Now I have a 13 month old, and my new baby is 3 months old (although we chose to place him for adoption). So it definitely happens! If you aren't bothered by the fact that you could have two babies, I wouldn't worry about it. But if you don't want another little one right now, I would definitely take precautions. Good luck with whatever you two decide!

When did you get your period with your 1st while breastfeeding? For us, despite being uberly fertile, my periods do not come back until the baby is 10-11 months old, so I know I don't ovulate those first 8 months at least so birth control through breastfeeding has been effective for us. We have 3 children now and are done, but our baby is still a newborn so breastfeeding is once again a blessing! :)

When did you ovulate after your other pregnancies? I've known lots of people that were ovulating a month after having a baby, but I think it depends on YOU.

Do you have any ovulation predictor tests? You could check and see if you're having an LH surge. That may alleviate some stress.

If you are exclusively breastfeeding, there is much less likelihood that you'd ovulate this soon, but your poor body needs time to recover after everything you've been through. But I do remember that first foray into passion after my son was born.... tough to think about logistics, I agree.

I would say the odds aren't that great, but it only takes one--so......I don't know what to say. I would call your doctor if you are concerned about the possibility. Good luck and congrats on your new baby~

I would say the odds are slim. In the rare chance that you are in a fertile period, even then, it is more likely that conception did not occur than it did.

Breastfeeding is actually 92% effective at preventing pregnancy. That is exclusive breastfeeding, no bottles, pacifiers or pumping. Any of those can reduce the effectiveness.

You can try Plan B however you would expect it to affect your milk supply. It is very unlikely that you are fertile but do keep in mind thqt you will be fertile about 14 days before you get your first period.

If you are sure you are not ready, you could go to any pharmacy and get Plan B, but it is most effective the sooner you take it. It cost around $50. It has some side effects, so talk with the pharmacists if you decide to go that route. Congratulations on your new bundle of joy.

Can I recommend trying the Nuva Ring? It inserts in the vagina and you can take it out for sex if you want, it's not really noticeable, but it is so danged convenient. It comes in a box with a freezer pouch and then it is kept in the fridge until it's used. It is a low dose method and it is really easy to use and take out. It is forgettable once you insert it and then just set a note on your calendar to remove it, have a period then insert a new one.

I don't think it is as invasive as a pill taken orally.
