A co-worker/friend who lived temporarily in my town when her oldest was born, then moved away Has now moved back permanently. She is great, but because of the distance over the last 5 years i don't really know her kids very well. One is 7, one is 5 and one is 3. We are going to visit their new house in a few days, and it occured to me that I should probably bring a house warming type present to the kids and maybe mom? Any great ideas??? Under $20 for the whole shebang if possible.

thanks

what about a basket of outdoor fun...bubbles, side walk chalk, water guns? Maybe a set of plastic summer themed tumblers with a pitcher and a container of lemonade?

I would bring something you could all eat and enjoy. Ice cream specialties
for the kids and something you and your friend could enjoy. Wine and cheese etc or some sort of coffee cake.

Michaels carries stepping stone creating kits where you put in the cement, decorate with stones and such and put handprints and names on them. Would be a fun activity for the whole family and then they could put it in their yard. Kind of like this but the store has a much larger selection. http://www.michaels.com/Falling-Leaves-Stepping-Stone/e04...

What about a movie basket with a DVD (or a gift card for a movie rental, or to a store where they could buy O.), lemonade mix and microwaveable popcorn? You could also add big plastic cups, straws and popcorn bags.

Maybe a mini garden kit? You could get either 1 large or 3 small pots, some seeds or a couple of trays of perennials or something, maybe some paints to decorate the pots. That could be a project for them, educational, and something to decorate the new home. You could definitely get all of the components for under $20!

I see that you're near Cleveland - what about a list of "Things to do with kids in Cleveland, OH" - you can google it - there are tons of sights out there with ideas. Tickets to one of the places if it's in your budget.

I don't know where your friend is moving from but now that she's by the lake again, what about beach/sand items - buckets and shovels, etc. New beach towels are always fun.

If your friend drinks and you have a local winery, what about a bottle of wine?

I'm sure she'll be appreciative of whatever you bring. Best wishes!

I like the movie idea, the food idea, and the board game idea.

If it were me, I'd probably do the board game. The 3 yr old might not quite get it yet, but the game QUIRKLE has won all sorts of awards. It is a dominoe type of game. There are different shaped and different colored squares that you line up to make a "quirkle". It's a strategic thinking game. I enjoyed playing it with my mom and my 9 yr old neice. My son, who was then 2, liked making a tower out of his blocks. :)

A puppy! Get them a puppy!

lol - just kidding!

IMO, you should just get a little something (plants are always nice) for the mom, but the kids don't really need a housewarming gift.

Or, a gift she might like even better is your offer to take the kids for an afternoon - to the park or something fun for them.

We moved recently and were amazed at the things that we got. One of my sons favorites was a indoor mini golf set. We also recieved a card game (uno for kids who can not read) I think board or card games are great and they can share. You could put together a little book for the kids of things to do in the area.

A nice new welcome mat for the front door and a pot with a green bush to set on the step.
