Hotslings Stretch Sling or Moby Wrap Carrier

Hi Moms-
I'm looking for some input on slings. I didn't have one with my first child, just a Bonjourn. I'm looking for something I can use from birth that will allow me the use of my hands for my 2 year old.

I found that the Hotslings and Moby both have great reviews. My concern with the Hotslings is what size to order. Many reviews say the sizing didn't work for them. My concern with the Moby is that in the instructional videos it looks a bit time consuming to put on since it is not preassembled.

Has anyone used either of these, and how did you like it?

Thanks so much!!

What can I do next?

I would actually say you should go with a sling, simply because it's easier to pop the baby in and out. I would just try guessing what size would fit better. I had to return mine twice before I figured it out. But as my son got older I switched to other carriers. There is a yahoo group called DuPage Slingers and they can answer all the questions you may have.

Hi Kristin!
I actually have both and loved them! But-Target sells the hotslings, and I think One Step Ahead does too. So you could try it out first and you could always return it if you need. But my favorite one was the Babyhawk. You can pick the colors and fabrics too! Babyhawk.com

The Moby wrap is awesome! It looks hard to use but once you learn the basic wrap it is quite simple. It is just one long, continuous piece of fabric that wraps across your shoulders and abdomen. There are many variations you can try that work well with babies of all ages. I really enjoyed mine and plan to use it again with the next baby. And, as far as slings go, it's pretty reasonably priced.

I also had a Hotslings - 2, actually, because of the sizing. The problem I found is that I was not the same size 6 days post-partum as I was 6 weeks post-partum and because of that this sling was a bit hard to fit properly. If you go with a pouch sling, get one that's adjustable. Maybe a ring sling like the Maya.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Definitely the Moby! I have a sling similar to the Hotsling and none of my three kids would go into it. The Moby is far more secure for an infant than the Hotsling and the Moby can do all sorts of different positions- front, side, and back and variations in each. If you want to try one on my lactation consultant sells them and will help you learn to use it- www.cygnuslactation.com. Congrats!

Get both.

I loved to use a wrap around the house, but when I would go out to the store and stuff, a sling is just so much easier.

I used a karma sling. Can't recall the wrap --just a WAHM product.

I have many many slings and I love them all for different reasons. The Moby is a wrap-type sling (actually, a stretchy wrap sling, to be exact) and will work well for a newborn. You might also consider a "Bali Baby Stretch" sling - similar in style to the moby. I have not used a stretch wrap, only a woven wrap which is not as strechy. I LOVE my wrap sling, though!! Tying it is similar to tying your shoes - it takes a little practice, but soon you can do it in no time at all.

I also LOVE my pouch slings. I have 2; a Kangaroo Korner Fleece Pouch and a Slinglings. The KK is stretchy and made of fleece. Very comfy. Very easy. great for newborns. Slingling is also very good - not as stretchy and it took me a little more time to get used to wearing but was much cooler in the summer (my daughter was born June 21 of last year, so you'll be in a similar season).

The thing about ANY sling in the summer is that it's HOT here in Chicago. No matter what you wear, if your baby is right next to you you'll both just be hot. The other thing is that you need to find a good sunscreen or lightweight clothing to cover up your little one because a sling doesn't offer much shade.

I do have a gauze wrap sling (Bali Baby Breeze) that is quite lightweight and good for summer - I used it for both my kids when they were newborn. If you're interested in that one, let me know because I'd actually like to sell it (my kids are too big for it now).

Either way, check reviews at www.thebabywearer.com - it's a great website. And good luck with 2! I didn't think the transition was bad - my kids are 25 months apart.

I have a Zolo sling, zolowear.com. It came with a great instructional video. When they were older I used a Beco baby carrier, which was awesome!
