I worked at a hotel for 12 years and they usually ask for $20.00 cash or they will authorize $50.00 on a debit/credit card. This is to cover any incidental charges during your stay. If you do not use any of the cash it is refunded to you at check out. The credit card authorization can take up to three days AFTER your check out to be removed from your account. Most of the time it is released within 24 hours, but it can take up to three days total. (This depends on the bank) At the hotel I worked at the guest coulkd ask us to turn their phone, movies, and internet off and we would not ask for the deposit. The guest then was on a cash basis throughtout the hotel. They were not able to charge restaurant or gift shop charges to their room. The deposit is just there in case you choose to charge anything to your room. I would call the hotel that you are booked at and ask them their policy regarding incidental charges. I'm sure they will allow you to do the cash deposit if you do not want the hold on your debit/credit card. I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions you can PM me and I will do my best to help.

If you're asking whether Travelocity asked for a deposit, the answer is "no". I just booked my annual girls' trip with them and no deposit. But, I've used them exclusively for years and was never asked for a deposit.

If you're asking whether the hotel will ask for a deposit, my experience has been that the hotel check-in procedure is to swipe a credit card regardless of what internet site you booked the stay through, ie - Travelocity or the hotel chain itself. That's simply to protect the hotel from any charges that may be made and charged to the room.

That's why I deal directly with a hotel website, ie: Hilton, Marriott, etc.

Haven't used them in awhile, so not sure if they still do, I know they did at one point! I use Cheaprooms.com...always works great, no deposit required.

I used them a few times this summer. I was never asked for a deposit but I was always asked to leave my credit card information for possible room service/phone charges.
