For what it's worth - I gave stationary note cards with their personalized initials and a nice pen. I got raving reviews from my friends and was asked by several of them where I had gotten the cards so they could get more.
Alright I gave my first shower myself, so no need for a gift. For the upcoming baby I was ambushed with a shower, everyone felt that I needed to have one since we have nothing for a baby and there is an 8yr difference. So my question is what is an appropriate hostess gift? My best friend is throwing the party, but at here moms house. I am friends with both of them and just have no idea what to get for them. What is the typical gift?
Thanks

Another suggestion might be the Willow Tree figures. I know you can get them at pretty much any Hallmark. I know I loved it when I was given one. Also, they have them in ornaments so if your shower is around Christmas how perfect that would be.
Maybe a spa day for two?
I don't know what a typical gift is, but I think a potted amaryllis bulb would be nice for each of them. They are so beautiful and dramatic when they bloom and now is the perfect time to buy them.
I'd get pedicures for both. An entire spa day for 2 is too expensive. I had a spa day just for myself and it was $250. Pick a place that is close to their home and run in and get a gift certificate. Or you could get them a gift certificate to have lunch or dinner somewhere...or get them each a $25 gift certificate to Victorias Secret. Every woman at any age can find something they like at Victorias Secret! :)
For my friend who threw my shower, I took her to lunch and gave her a cute pink bathrobe with matching fluffy slippers from Nordtrom's. She loved it!
I would give give spa gifts or pedicures or something in that nature. What women does not like to be pampered in that way. If it seems a little expensive then go to the Academy for Massage Therapy they are students but hey are wonderful and they are super cheap and it very nice place. www.academyformassage.com or ###-###-####. Check it out fo rthem or any other reason or just yourself.
What about a themed gift like a bottle of wine and wine charms or a baking cook book and cookie cutters or a bag of coffee, coffee mug and chocolate dipped stir spoons?
Homemade gifts are nice too- like a tin of fudge or cookies...
Okay, I now sell steel my heart which has personalized stuff, so I'd probably go that route - J..yoursmh.com
BUT my last baby I had lots of hostesses for the shower so I needed a gift that was inexpensive and cute. I bough a dry mix on the cake isle for sticky buns and a pan to cook them in. I put a bow around the two and affixed a note that said big thanks from our 'bun in the oven'
It was really fun and very cute.
How about 2 Gold Canyon Candles??? They smell wonderful and last a very long time. You could spend about $10-35 for a really nice gift that will last longer and be far less expensive than a day at the spa.
