Try triple paste as the diaper cream. It worked really well for us. Some other tips, wash with water at diaper changes and let him bottom air dry. Try to avoid baby wipes while he has the rash.
My son has had diarreha (sp??) for 3 days now and his butt is so red and sore. Yes, he's been to the dr. Does anyone have any tips on relieving the pain or getting it to go away faster?

I used bag balm. It is used on cows utters when they get chapped and raw. There is a generic called utter balm but the best is the little green can. It works miracles. If you think there is nothing more soft and tender than than a cows bag and utters. It has been on the market since the 1800's and really is great. Always available at Farm and fleet but i think it is now available a Walmart, Walgreens, and jewel Osco
Just an idea.

My daughter got a bad diaper rash from diarreha yesterday. In 24 hours it was significantly reduced just from using Burts Bees Diaper Cream. I put a generous amount (I call it frosting her like a cake) and by the time I put her to bed tonight she had minimal reddness. I swear by the cream and tell everyone I know about it.
Our Dr suggested Triple Paste but it was beyond my budget! I looked at the ingredients in several and the closest (possibly the same amount) one with the zinc was Balmex. Worked wonderfully and within a diaper change or two I noticed a huge difference! They actually have a claim on their tubes about it helping within one change to get rid of the redness or something... not willing to chance waking up my daughter to go read it- sorry! Also, use A&D ointment as a barrier over that to help avoid rashes while he is sick.
Hope he feels better! Blessings to you and yours!
You could also use a spray bottle at diaper changes and blot to clean and not wipe.
Triple paste is great! You may also need an anti-fungal ointment if it is really bad.
Hi, I know it stinks seeing your son uncomfortable . My nana told me about a oldschool remedy . Mix cornstarch and mylanta into a paste after washing his little bottom with warm water on a papertowel . Dont be afraid to use a lot , the mylanta reduces the redness and pain and the cornstarch acts as a barrier . You should notice a difference in 1-2 aplications (sp) . The bad thing is you cant premake it . Oh well but it works wonders
use corn starch i have used it as a baby powder for about 6 years and it has keeped away any diaper rashes even with diarrhea good luck and hope it works
Triple Paste is great stuff! You might also try skipping the wipes altogether. Wipe off with a damp paper towel and rinse in the sink. Let him airdry and play without a diaper as much as possible. Mylanta is great to use on diaper rash! In severe cases I have mixed monistat and neosporin in a pinch... it works. Try the mylanta, just dab it on with a cotton ball.
Good Luck!
Ditto on the mylanta. I have even done it without the cornstarch and it worked wonders!
