Hormones Still Unbalanced 1 Year After Gave Birth

I have only spoken to one other woman who had this same problem and at that time it was only 2 months after I gave birth so I didn't give it much thought.

Actually my son is already 14 months and my body has not gone back to normal. My periods are still all over the place, and sometimes it's not my period I just have slight bleeding, I still get the hot flashes I got when I was pregnant,(for example just during simple shopping). My face won't stop breaking out, the acne is so bad even if I don't touch them they leave scars for awhile. My hair has always fallen out (I have ALOT of hair) but it's falling out more than usual. I'm still young I'm going to be 25 in a few months but I feel like I'm falling apart already.

I have a sonogram scheduled next week to rule out any other problems, and I have a dermatalogist appt this week also. I'm just trying to get back to normal.

Has anyone else gone through this? How long did it take for your hormones to go back to normal and what did you have to do? Thanks in advance for any advice.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went to my appt today and they were going to do a bunch of testing, for my hormones, and thyroid, but an internal sonogram revealed I had several cervical polyps, and she was definite thats the reason why I haven't been feeling so well and have had so many of my symptoms. So I do have to have a surgery to have them removed but I'll be in and out of the hospital the same day. I'm finally happy I have an answer now. Thanks to everyone who responded!

If you are breastfeeding then your periods will be all over the place if you even have any, plus some of the other symptoms you mentioned. With breastfeeding your hormones are going to be very different because your body is busy producing milk etc. If you are not breastfeeding then I would discuss everything with my doctor and try to figure out what is going one because that isn't normal

V., I have a friend that her son is 5- it took her along time to get over the hormone issues. Now she has a lot of stress factors in her life and she is starting all of that again- she is producing milk, periods are all messed up- if she even has one and she freaks because she thinks she is pregnant- all the test shows that she is not.
Definately talk to your doctor- do like some of the others said and ask them to check your thyroid!

And if you are stressed- with job, son etc. try and relax alittle! :) Hope this helps, and best of luck!

Hi V.. Question are you breastfeeding or did you recently stop? Iswear that after I quite breastfeeding my son(around 9 mths) ALL my hormones were crazy for up to a year later. I still had milk leaking , hair loss ,weird periods. Same thing you have described. And just one day it stopped. So I really dont have any advice. Your body will adjust in time. But boy I've been there!

Dear V.,

Go get a thyroid panel done immediately. The thyroid is the master gland for hormone production. Some of your symtoms sound very much like your thyroid is not functioning properly. Quest diagnostics is on the internet and you can order a wellness panel for a woman for $89.00. They tell you where to go for the blood draw and then you get the results and bring them to your doctor or take them to an endocrinologist. But your thyroid should be checked right away. The specific test is called t3 or thyroid panel. The wellness check also covers many other things such as anemia, cholesterol, etc. This should provide some answers for you. I know thyroid stuff because I was born with half a thyroid and have used alternative methods for years to take care of it.
