My husband's aunt shared that honey therpy may help my boys with their allergies. My 6 year old has cold induced asthma. Coughs out of control when the weather changes or he gets a cold. my 15 yr old has been fighting a Virus cold for 6 months that he is going through OTC meds like crazy. He coughs, and coughs and throat is sore. Doctors can't find anything other than a virus.
Anyone have any suggestions for honey therpy to treat some of this?

What can I do next?

Local RAW honey , it has to unprocessed honey , it still has pollen in it,or it won't work. it's a teaspoon a day EVERYDAY . you have to do it EVERYDAY.

Also try hot herbal tea for the cough and sore throat.

You can use honey but it needs to be local, unfiltered, raw honey or it doesn't work.

You may also want to take out all sugars, white flours, fried foods, and have lots of vegies and fruits. They may be gluten senitive, which would mean taking out all gluten products, wheat etc. and replacing with brown rice, oats and such.

You may also want to see if they need vitamin/mineral supplements especially vit. C. Vitamin C therapy is very helpful. You need to do some research. They must be quality. Another thing that may help is a quality pro-biotic the brand 365 is good. Take it on an empty stomach preferrably. If they eat alot of sugary and white flour foods they especially need to cut it out and take an probiotic.

There are also cleanses that work great that the 15yr old can do that will help greatly and may even cure it. Another thing that is very helpful is taking unfiltered, naturally aged, pure, Apple Cider Vinegar. Your 15 yr.old can do this one too. Take it in a little water and down it, or take it straight, some people add a little honey to it. Does wonders when used regularly. Another thing he can take that helps greatly is olive and oregano capsules. Cut out the bad foods add lots of fresh foods.

My daughter became struck with an unknown virus when she was 16. Stayed in the hospital for 3 days and they determined it was unknown and couldn't do anything. She was sick for months and months. We did all these things I"ve mentioned, including a lemon/red pepper fast and it did wonders. She still gets sick easily if she doesn't stay on a good diet.

These are a few things you can do, but do some research. There's a site called Clinic Earth that is helpful.

UNPASTEURIZED honey is what usually works.

I'm sorry - but a virus or cold does not last 6 months. This is more than a cold or virus. You need to take him to the doctor and get him "fixed". The OTC meds you have been giving him for the last six months have probably lost their affect on him because he's had them for SSSSOOO long...they are NOT MEANT to be used every day for more than a week.

You need to find another doctor if they say they can't find anything other than a virus. Something is wrong. A virus will typically run its course for no more than 3 weeks.

Get him to an allergist to find out exactly what he is allergic to.

After you get the results - look around your home and start a clean up. This means you may have to get rid of the carpeting and go for hardwood floors. Blinds instead of drapes/curtains.

Find a doctor who will think outside the box and get your son the help he needs. STOP giving him over the counter meds. STOP. TODAY.

Good luck!

Yes, like Christine said, it has to be local honey. One teaspoon per day. Last summer, I bought local honey from a farmer's market, and I was quite skeptical about the claims to cure allergies. But I must say that it did help tremendously. After one week, I was able to stop taking my daily dose of Allegra. I got lazy after a while and stopped eating the honey when I ran out, so I don't know if it would have kept me from sneezing all summer.

Do any of your kids take Zyrtec? You might want to try that everyday for a week or so to see if their symptoms get better. This doesn't sound like a virus. Good luck!

YEP! I coughed for nearly a year and then began eating raw local honey. I tried to eat a spoon of honey a day for a month. After 1 week, I couldn't do it any longer. However, I noticed a change.

Now I just eat honey in my oatmeal on the weekends. When I am sick, I make a lemon tea of water, 1/2 lemon, 1 tablespoon of oregano, a spoon of honey, and a dash of cinnamon. I drink it for 3 days and I am clear. My family dislikes the taste, so they try to avoid it and then beg me to make if for them after they think they are dying.

Added...I have not seen a MD for allergy, cough, or cold/flu symptoms since 2007.

If you or your son suffer from allergies to local pollens, then this is the way to go.

The science behind using local, unprocessed honey, or raw honey, or creamed honey, is that the pollen has not been removed and is creamed into the honey. Your body's immune system can learn to build a better response to the pollen you ingest, as it is introduced into your blood stream during digestion, therefore it finds it's way into your bone marrow and ultimately your immune system. This entire process takes about 6 months for one's body to create the desired results.

So don't approach this as a one time purchase, or one time trip to the local farmer's market or natural store. You need to commit to eating honey. Period.

We drink it every day in tea. Any kind of tea. When I met my husband, he was addicted to Sudafed and suffered horribly from seasonal allergies. I put him on local, raw honey and sure enough within 6 months he started using fewer allergy meds and now never uses Sudafed.

I grew up on local honey as my mom, back in 60's was heavily invested in nutritional research.

There usually will be many varieties available, so choose one and rotate through the local pollens: clover leaf, orange blossom, etc.

My friend is a naturopathic doctor and I asked her about this a while back. It has to be local honey as the bees will carry the pollen of the allergen that is causing the problems. However, that being said, she was still skeptical and said the research is really mixed about its effectiveness.

When we moved and were surrounded by Oak trees, my son had a very difficult time during the change in seasons. Honey is truly amazing stuff in my opinion. You need to buy a good LOCAL honey. I gave him a spoonful a few times per day and it really did reduce and eventually eliminate his reactions.

Now, every time he has a cough, he asks for a spoonful :-)

I did my allergist about local honey and he told me that by the time you get the honey those properties are completely removed. (I just can't think what 'those properties' are called... It's been a little while since we had the conversation)

Like others have suggested it is time for an allergist. The younger you are the quicker you respond so I wouldn't wait any longer.

If you're in the area I can recommend an excellent allergist.

You need to find a new team of doctors to get to the root of your son's problem. A six month long cold virus sounds like a fishy diagnosis to me. But I am no doctor.

I thought this was going to be merely a question regarding allergies and the honey remedy. We are currently trying it out on my husband. He has horrible seasonal allergies....sneezing fits, congestion, drainage, itchy eyes and throat. He takes Allegra D morning and night and 1- 2 cups of warm herbal tea in the evenings with about 1Tbs. of honey in each cup. So far so good. It seems to be working.

We buy our local honey from nearby Costco. It is from a local bee harvester. I have a friend that buys her honey from a local nursery.

Give it a try..couldn't hurt...and it is fairly cheap compared to trying more and more allergy meds. Honey is very healthy and tasty.

I have heard of recent data saying it does NOT work. But, even if we are getting the placebo effect we are happy with the results. I have local friends who swear by the honey routine...and I like that local statistic ;)

I have friends that also swear by the Neti pot. My husband is repulsed by the idea. Guess if he ever gets desperate enough then he will try it. But...honey in warm tea is more inviting as of now.

Good luck and best wishes!
