I was told no about graham crackers with honey in them so I would assume that the same goes for bagels. Better safe than sorry I would think. Great idea though!
this may be a silly question. i know i cant give my 8 month old honey, but i found frozen mimi bagels for him to chew on but they have honey in them. I was not sure if i can give it to him as an ingredient in an obviously cooked bagel. any advice?

Raw honey is the problem. Not cooked honey.
No honey at all until 12 months old - even as an ingredient and/or cooked. :-)
It's okay in a cooked product. The concern with honey is botulism but when it's cooked, the spores are destroyed. We give our daughter Earth's Best frozen blueberry mini-waffles. We get them at PCC and they're on sale right now. You might check and see if that's a better choice for you just to be sure of the honey issue.
what a brilliant idea to use frozen mini-bagels for teething!
Honey is fine as long as it is not raw, uncooked, from the bottle...not a problem at all if baked into things - the problem is "killed" off when cooked!
There is no problem giving the bagels to your son. The honey has been cooked so there shouldn't be a chance of him getting sick because of the honey. I had the same type of concern over graham crackers when my first was about 6 months old. The nurse I talked to said there wasn't any risk with the crackers. Good luck!
I am hoping that someone can confirm that honey (in any form) is no longer a concern at 12 months.
Thank you.
Any cooked honey is okay. That includes honey gram crackers, honey bagels, etc. Botulism is the worry, and it is killed when cooked.
Hi S., Giving your little one the bagels with the honey baked inside, they say not to give them the honey straight from the jar or container because its raw and can make them very sick. When its cooked like you are saying in bread it would be wise to just call and ask your ped baby doctor anyway no matter what you are giving for advice to be on the safe side for his age.

You can give him the bagle without any problems. I've been giving my daughter Honey-Nut Cheerios since she's about 7 months old. The honey warning is for raw honey only.
Costco used to have fresh mini bagels without honey that you could buy and freeze for your little guy. You don't say why you can't give him honey, is it an allergy or on the advice of your pediatrician as you introduce new foods? Fresh honey is not a good idea for any baby under 1 yr of age, or at least that's what I had been told. Cooing with it was never a problem. Best of luck!!!
Cooked honey is fine - the heat kills any potential botulism. No question is ever silly so always ask away! It's why we're all here isn't it *winks*.
I don't have the answer for you, and I wouldn't hazard a guess one way or the other, but I would suggest asking your pediatrician first. I have always been told no honey for those under 12 months because of botulism, but I don't if this holds true for baked goods.
I see that there is a lot of conflicting advice here, with no clear cut answer one way or the other. Perhaps you should hold off on the bagel just to be safe, until you can chat with you doctor. Better safe than sorry, right?
The reason you shouldn't give them honey is that honey is raw and can carry the botulinum toxin, which causes botulism, which can be very bad in an infant. I would imagine that in a bagel, the honey is cooked well so it shouldn't be a problem.
