Please tell me which you prefer and why. What is the gas mileage like? Any trouble with your van?? Please tell me the good, bad and ugly. I need to buy a new car within the next few days.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

You MAMAs are awesome!!!! I love ALL of your responses. You've been very informative and helpful but still I can't decide. I looked at both. The Hondas are a tad bit more expensive than the Siennas. I'm really torn. My husband drives a Honda Pilot. I'm seriously considering just getting another Pilot. My Chrysler Town and Country broke down on me last Monday on I-35 in Dallas. NOT FUN!!! I've had it with that van!! It's great when it isn't breaking down on me. My youngest is my children range in age from 5 - 13

Im not familiar w/ the Toyota, but the Honda Odyssey was labeled as the safest van in Parents magazine. If price doesn't matter, compare the safety of both vehicles and go w/ the safest. If they compare similar to safety, i would recommend the Honda. Family in auto mechanic industry, and Honda will last you longer than a Toyota w/ less maintenance. Good Luck and drive safe!!

I don't know about vans, but I love my Honda Accord. It gets 31 mpg. This may not help since it isn't an Odyssey.

Honda Oddessy!!! You definitely should go with the Honda. When you go buy one, you should go to Rusty Wallis Honda, they are the best!!!

we've had our Ody for 2 years and never had problems. I love it for all the cup holders, the ease of folding seats, the conversation mirror, smooth ride, etc.... to me the Sienna just wasn't as comfortable and seemed like the finish out was cheaper. We bought our Ody new.

I do not know much about the Toyota Sienna. However, I have had my Odyssey for almost 4 years and absolutely love it. Of course I love Hondas. I also have a 98 accord). I never saw myself in a minivan. However, when I am driving it, I do not feel like I am in a minivan. My girlfriends love it too when we go out for our girls night. They call it the space shuttle because it can basically do anything but pop popcorn (of course it depends on what version you buy). The gas mileage is good. It is around 27 MPG on Highway and about 20 MPG in city. No matter what vehicle you go with make sure you ask your bank if they have special promotions with any dealers. I know that a lot of the credit unions have contracts with dealers. This way you buy your vehicle through the fleet dealer and pay anywhere from $100-500 above COST (which is way lower than sticker price). Also research the dealer. I would not recommend using Honda Cars of McKinney unless you have a friend whom you trust working there. The sales people are nice, However, I have had a few issues there and if it weren't for a friend of mine being one of the managers I would have gotten screwed out of a lot of money. Freeman Honda and Lute Riley are pretty good.

Well, I was in your same boat a few months ago. After baby #3 arrived in October it was no longer fun to drive a 4-runner! So, I broke down and got a mini van...and I LOVE it! Shopped all around, and ended up going with the Nissan Quest. To be honest, this decision was part financial, part vanity. The Nissan is about half the price used as a used Honda or Toyota (across the board really, not just those brands of mini van). Anyway, I got my 2006 Quest with 25K miles for 13K. A Honda that was the same year and features with more miles on the lot was about 21K. Maybe that means it's a better car, I don't know. But I have been really pleased with my Quest. Plus I think it's way cuter than the Toyota or Honda...if a mini van can be cute that is!

This is my second Odyssey. The first one had over 150,000.00 and when we traded it in the new owner called us and said it was in great shape! We never had a major problem with it and the new one (2009) is even better, lots of "mama features" and even more space! How exciting that you are getting a new car!

Don't know much about the Odyssey, but we love our Sienna. Ours is a 2004, has almost electronic everything. Can't remember exactly what the miles per gallon is, but I can usually go over 400 miles on one tank of gas. The best things are the easy access and the room - Doors open at the push of a button, Kids get in and out in a snap, DVD player, Removable bucket seats in the center. Kids are all in the back (ages 2,5,7), very comfortable. It's great for us. Good luck with your decision!

I have had both(07 Sienna and 08 Odyessy) and absolutely LOVE the Sienna. It is more plush and though the Odyssey isn't shabby the Sienna is just nicer. Also, I made fun of my best friend for saying this until I had my Odyssesy but the rear door does not have an automatic lift...in the rain, that's a pain!!! Hands are full, it's a pain yes it's a luxury but it's a luxury I prefer. I feel like gas mileage is about the same and as far as I know, they rate about the same in regards to safety, you may want to check on that, but if I had to buy another minivan, I would def. pick the Sienna. I love my Sienna! And I was a total mini-van hater . . . insisted I would never drive one. But the Sienna has been great. It is so comfortable and roomy. We have driven back and forth to NJ in it several times (and will be doing so again this summer) because most of our family is there. The car drives so smoothly. It has 76,000 miles on it now and I've had absolutely no problems with it. I expect it will last me another 76,000 miles!

I would check the safety ratings for the Insurance Institute as well as the government tests for the year you plan to purchase and go with the safest. If they are equivalent, choose the one you like because I believe both are very reliable. Of course, you can check reliability ratings as well. I have a a 2000 Sienna with 176,000 miles on it and we have had no problems with it. We have maintained it well (regular oil changes, checks as recommended etc) and it has been great. It was so convenient for trips, carting kids and musical instruments and as a changing room! They are even better now but we expect this to be our last minivan since the kids are almost grown!

Good luck and I believe either mv would be a great choice.

I've enjoyed my Odyssey for the past four years. Don't know what prices are like now, but when I was considering between the Sienna and the Odyssey, a lot of the features that were add-on options on the Sienna came standard on the Odyssey. I figured I'd be paying $40K on the Sienna for the same features that came on the $30K Odyssey. This may have changed since the newer models have come out, so I'd suggest taking a look online and comparing the standard features. I've had no complaints with the Honda, and Toyotas are great, too -- I had a Camry before the Odyssey, so you can't go wrong either way. Just give them a test drive and see which one fits you best.

Sienna never thought I'd drive one but I like it a lot although I have days when I miss my Jeep (like when the weather is really nice). We compared the Oddysey and Sienna before we went with the Sienna. Mileage varies with how it's driven but for the most part we get around 19 in town and have gotten up to 26 on the highway driving to and from Illinois and Indiana. We have the 8 seater and usually just leave the middle seat out of the middle row. Definitely go with the auto side door and the auto lift gate. We've had no problems so far and have 21,000 miles on ours, they also have good resale value but we're really planning on keeping ours until it's driven into the ground. Like the way it handles even in the rain and snow. It has side curtain airbags standard. And it just feels comfortable for both me and my husband a good thing since I'm 5'2" and he's 6'.
