Has anyone used the site http://www.ixl.com/ I stumbled upon it while looking for dot to dots for my daughter. It seems like a good study site but I'm not sure if I want to pay 10 bucks a month unless it is great. Math is not my strong point so it hasn't been my daughters either. We could use some extra help in that subject.

I loved that site for my grandson whom I homeschool. It makes it fun as they get virtual prizes for completing certain tasks. The site allows them to look forward to what they "get" and are working toward. If your daughter is used to public school and rote work then I am sure this will be a good fit. I think they have a trial month. Also, if you do a yearly membership it is only $6.67 a month.

Hello, my daughter uses it during the school year for practice. It has a nice way of explaining things and you receive answers immediately. She gets a "reward" as she gets more answers correct and achieves 100%. Sometimes trying to find the exact area she needs for studying is difficult since our school district seems to mix up grade levels. I think the best thing about it is it gives my child the opportunity to practice over and over the same subject without my getting too involved. Good luck.

I am not a fan of left and right brain theories. Women who have strokes recover speech because we use both sides of our brain to talk with while men use only one side.
Girls and boys are different in their mental make up.
I never duplicated what the schools can do. I showed my children what I knew, plant identification, how the human body functions, to read for comprehension. I took them to museums explaining about the artists and his career. We went to see famous dance companies and to the symphony and live plays. Sometimes we lived in out of the way places and had to drive hours to get to an interesting destination.
I took them hiking in nature. I travelled all over the USA and Canada with them and each one got to go to Europe.
When did all this enrichment begin? Around the age of three.
You have lots of inner resources start using them.

My kids and I really like ixl. I found it on accident and started using it, then the school got signed up for all the elementary students to use. I like how it is broken down into each specific skill. I also like how a child can work at their own level and are not locked into a specific grade level. It is a fun way to work on math for the summer (or all year)!

I just starting using it, and so far, so good. I have my pre-k and 8 yo using it. Seems to be fairly accurate when it comes to the problems by grade. It's also nice cuz it gives weekly reports on how many hours and problems have been completed, let's you print out certificates of achievement and gives %'s of grade level completion.
The kids also like getting on the computer for something different than paper homework.
