Hey moms iam currently thinking about homeschooling my daughterfor kindergarten. We currently live in a school district I really don't want her in. Well we can't move for atleast 2 more years because my husband owns his own business and we need a certain number of years of full proof of income inorder to get another loan. I would like a Christian based ciriculum. Do any of you have any advice for me on how to go about doing this? I just don't want to screw her up and hold her back but I feel confident I can do it, iam just nervous. Any advice??

What can I do next?

I use Abeka for my daughter and it is a very good academic curriculum. Bob Jones is also a good Christian curriculum. You can often find books on ebay to save money. Good luck. Homeschooling is hard work but so rewarding too.

We are using A Beka here.
The K5 manuscript edition. You can opt for the cursive kit, but we did not.
Not a problem.
I like it.
DD likes it.
My only complaint are some of the add on books. Not really worth purchasing...
The "science" book, the social studies book, and the Bible activity book (basically a coloring book) were not necessary purchases, imo.
We have a good library. And I use it. :)
I have a really tough kid. (And I am not the most motivated person on earth.)
I knew she would not be the easiest child to homeschool. But our options were few too. I have to say it feels really good to teach her.
She is learning! I am proud.
You can do it!

I used Abeka and Bob Jones for our kids but there are many new ones out there now. I like these two because they still teach like I learned in school and not 'watered down' curriculum. You can cover it all or not all if you want if it's too hard but I personally liked it especially for younger grades.

I use Abeka with my three children, but there are many. Search the internet for Homeschool stores in your area. They are usually used and new books there. We have one in Lewisville, TX and i drive 45 miles to get there. Well worth the drive and savings on books. Good luck!

Memoria press has some great kindergarten curriculum. I used the First Start Reading Program and Copybook I for my daughter. She loved it! I also used Horizon Math K and found it user friendly even without the teacher guide. My daughter actually learned to read with A Beka's K4 curriculum in home "preschool" at age 4 1/2. My only complaint with A Beka was that they encouraged cursive writing before mastering printing the letters and it caused my daughter a lot of frustration until I stopped and just had her print the letters. She now is in first grade and is mastering cursive without any problem. BOB books are great for early readers as a supplement to A Beka's program. Hope that helps.

I like Alpha-Omega way back when I homeschooled one of my older kids. It was really complete with workbooks and teacher/parent aid. I am not sure if they have it for kindergarten but you should look. And go you - by the way - you will be great..!! I wish I had the option of homeschooling mine.

For good deals and tons of options, you can also look at Christian book Distributors. (online at christianbook.com) They have a tons of curriculum available at discount prices.

We have been looking at using "My Father's World" curriculum for kindergarten. It walks through the alphabet by looking at creation.
