My daughter who is 23 months (almost 2, bday is May 19th) has been having dirrehea since last Thursday or Friday. I finally decided it was time to give her something to try to recover from dirrehea. I called the pharmacy yesterday to ask what I could give her, and she said I could give her 1/2 teaspoon of children's immodium (the one that is for age 6 yrs old and up). Well, it's not working, just pure dirrehea again today. I may have to take her to the ped tmrw or Thursday, but I wanted to see if there are any other remedies I could try. Also, when having dirrehea, no apple juice or milk for the time being right?

Hi L.,

When my daughter had diarrhea and I didn't want to go to the store to buy the immonium late at night, I read in my alternative medicine book and gave her bananas. She's 8 and I let her eat as many as she wanted. After three bananas, she quit eating them and no more diarrhea!

Hope this helps!

My pedi has always told me to not give anything to treat diarreah. She said if there is something bad in their system you want to let it out of the body rather than keep it in. I hope she feels better soon.

A couple of months ago I went to Urgent Care for dirrehea and vomiting and was told by the doctor to help stop dirrehea you could eat a green banana. I tried it, and it worked...

Our kiddos must have the same nasty virus. My toddler has also been suffering since Thursday and then my infant picked it up this weekend. I'm also very frustrated that nothing seems to work (the Immodium didn't seem to offer any relief to my toddler either) I took my infant in to the after hours clinic on Sunday and was given an RX for anti-nausea medicine. (You didn't mention if your daughter is vomiting or not, but if she is, this may make the trip to the doctor worth-while) I took my toddler into his pedi yesterday and was just told to keep doing what we're already doing (no sweets or dairy, make sure he doesn't get dehydrated, switch to soy milk and give him pedialyte, watch the diaper rash - aquafor has been a big help with that) The only new piece of advice I received was to give him lactobacillus (ask the pharmacist for it, it's OTC, but they keep it behind the counter bc it has to be refrigerated). I'm not sure that it's made a difference for my son yet, but just thought I would pass it along if you are, like me, and desperate to try anything!
Good luck to you ... I'm right there with ya!

When mine was younger than that her doc said to get Oolong Tea, it's a Chinese tea, make it straw colored and give it to her. It made a difference!!! Watch her carefully, if she appears listless call your doc asap is what I was always told. My kids are 33, 22, and 21. Hope this helps

The BRAT diet is a good fix (bananas, rice, applesauce & toast)

The BRAT diet has always worked for my son and I always added carrots, sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes as well. No apple juice or juice period in my opinion. Milk is fine as long as she's not throwing up, you might also try danactive too which is Great for the digestive system.

Hope this helps

The immodium should have helped but sometimes the first dose needs to be doubled to really help it out. But since she is so young......?
You can peel an apple and let it brown up and feed it to her. It 's a natural anti-diarrhea remedy.
Yes I would lay back on the juice and milk for now and let the intestines rest. I would suggest giving her some pedilyte or gatorade for now to drink to keep her hydrated. Also feed her Bananas, rice stuff like that to keep things easy digestive system. Also keep her bottom protected with alot of diaper rash cream even if there is not a rash to help prevent one.
