I need some help coming up with something to fill about 6 vases to go on the center of my table. I need the item to be red. Last 3 years I used cranberries... tired of cranberries! I need A LOT so I would love it to be inexpensive. I thought about red hot candies, but feel sure the red would come off and I would have 1 big red hot!! The center vase, very large, will have water and amaryllis,so it whatever it is can't fade! Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thanks for all the wonderful ideas I received!!! I had a few private messages that were great also. I have so far bought bells,I bought the snow that pottery barn sells, and red and silver pipe cleaners(of all things) to bend and twist for the bulk. My red and white Amaryllis in center. For the vases that surround the tall one in center I am using the snow and pine cones sprayed with a little silver. I am definitely NOT Martha Stewart, but with all y'alls help maybe I can be one of her distant cousins!! Thank you, Thank you. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas

have you tried the fish bowl glass beads? The will last forever and I they won't bleed or anything. I think they are pretty cheep. You can get bags of them in the pet area of any big retail store.

Depending on the size of the vases, you can use pomegrantes or red glass beads, which you can get at any arts and crafts store.

Fill with red marbles/stones/clear rocks from craft store...spray paint small pine cones...wrapped peppermints...cover styrofoam balls with red sequins or satin ribbon.

If you wanted to go with a natural element, you could do feathers. I'm just guessing they'd carry them in red at a craft store like Michael's; if so, I think they would be really pretty mixed in with natural-colored ones. The feathers fill up the vases quickly since they're fluffy, so you wouldn't need a huge amount. My sister just got married and did this with some tall cylindrical vases at her reception that held the feathers, with shorter ones that had floating candles in them. It was really cool!

Shiny Minature Christmas bulbs. You can get them from Hobby Lobby or maybe even the Dollar Store.

Poinsettias are a good idea. If you use live ones you could cut off the stems and seal the ends by dipping them in simmering water or a candle flame.

I have used red and gold mardi gras beads, but you can usually find long strings of beads (like what you would use on your christmas tree) in many colors with the christmas stuff in ay store and they are super cheap! And you wont notice they are on a string if they are in a vase. Funny, I actually considered using cranberries in my centerpiece this year!

What about red fairy stones? They're fairly cheap at craft stores.

It might help to use the old standby of using some filler material that takes up space so you don't need as much of the red stuff. ie glass vase -pour in some red beads - insert a jar with the lid on it/ or ball of newspaper to take up space - then pour in more red beads. S.

We have a big vase in the center of our table - we have it filled with red and silver Christmas ornaments (balls and other shapes) and then have a red berry wreath around the base of the vase. It's very pretty.
