Hip Hurts

My five year DD has been complaining off and on that her right side hurts tummy/hip??? This has been going on for about a week now...I've asked the teacher at her school and then afternoon daycare if she's complained about it to them?? They've said no. She's been fine. Rather than jump to conclusions my DH and I have been watching her and not trying to make a big deal about it since her mentioning it has not been constant. But it seems she is mentioning it a lot..She's been able to go to dance class, gymnastics, ride her bike...run etc...She says she is not able to sleep at night...??? Hmmm because we've checked on her and she is sleeping like a rock and has not awakened us in the middle of the night for this reason. I do give her some ibuprofen and she says that seems to help her.

We thought maybe constipation but she is moving her bowels daily. No fever, no coughing, no diaharea, vomitting or upset stomach. She is on singular for a previous respitory issue. Other than complaining a bit she is happy and well adjusted. She is going to t he pediatrician later today because it is concerning me and I want to have things checked out...

Anyone experience this?

What can I do next?

my DD also complains from time to time about abdominal pain "over here" or "right there". Eventually after much complaining over an extended period of time (months or coming & going pain) we had her thoroughly evaluated, sonogram, etc. Nothing. I think it's either occasional gas, something doesn't agree with her tummy, growing pains, etc. Let's face it we all have phantom pains every so often - and eventually they go away. YEs once in a great w hile there's something serious going on - but the vast majority of the times it's just those phantom gas pains, intestinal bubbles, etc.

Sounds like growing pains to me. Often times they only notice it at night.
Glad she's seeing the doc anyway!
Hope she feels better.

A few years ago my son, who was then six, complained of his hip hurting. When it lasted for more than a few days I took him to the doctor and after she looked him over she asked if he recently was sick, which he was with a bad cold. She said that some times the virus can travel through the body and end up in the hip and it can also be vey painful. So maybe if she was sick recently that could be a result. It could also just be growing pains but it never hurts to go to the doctor, (which I'm sure you've already thought of!). Good luck to you and your daughter, I'm sure she'll be just fine.

Check for hip dysplasia. It's typically found earlier but that's something you won't want to overlook.

You mentioned gymnastic. Could she have pulled a muscle in class? Good that you have her going to the Doctors! Please keep us posted!
