Our plans for a relaxing vacation at the gulf coast have been changed for obvious reasons. We are now thinking about going to Hilton Head Island instead, but I don't even know where to begin my search for a place to stay. I'd like to be oceanfront in a resort style setting with a pool.
I've looked at VRBO, but haven't had much luck. I've heard so many great things about HH, and can't wait to go, but I need some suggestions. Please share your experiences! Thanks!

but if you are looking at South Carolina you should check out Kiawah island.
its beautiful! and super kid friendly, you can rent a house condo or stay at the hotel called the sanctuary
HH and Kiawah are great, but we really enjoy Seabrook Island- right next to Kiawah. It's a little more private with no hotels. You can rent a house or condo- there are tons of activities- tennis, golf, horseback riding, biking etc. and is very close to Charleston for fun shopping. It is absolutely beautiful. My family went when I was a kid and now I bring my kids! Try www.resortquest.com for lodging info. Have fun wherever you decide to go the Carolinas are a very special place!
I took my husband to Kiawah Island for his 40th birthday and he LOVED it. They have a neat little town shopping area with a malt shop, cool grocery store, and a beautiful beach nearby. At least 4 very nice golf courses to choose from.
We love Hilton Head, but we've had much nicer places to stay off of the beach. I love staying on the beach too, but a lot of the condos haven't been great. You can rent bikes and bike the entire island and ride onto the beach at lots of different places. I would look into the Hilton and Disney resorts.
