I need to purchase highchairs for my twins - needing recommendations on best brands, most comfortable/usable. Since I buy two i would love to know any bargains, what features matter and what not to waste money on. Are these ok to buy used or will they be too broken down or nasty? Do they make any for kids that can't quite sit up alone yet? thanks mamas!

What can I do next?

If you don't want the highchairs to take up too much space or you simply don't have much space for the highchairs go with the seat that ties onto a chair. I got one for my daughter since we have limited space in the dining area. It's been great. Easy to clean the tray and she sits at the same level as us. Cost is reasonable too. Think it was like $30.

Hi M., I actually have twins too. I didn't want to get them traditional high chairs-they take up so much kitchen floor space and are hard to get all the food off of it (deep in the crevices, etc.). I got these chairs by Inglesina that hook on to our countertop. Pros-they take up less space, their plates/bowls can be put right up on the countertop, (we have plastic mats that can be cleaned and stick to the counter) the whole chair can be put in the washing machine. Cons-the babies must be able to sit up on their own, the belt is not a 5 point harness. They have really worked well for us.

I'm a SAHM to 2 year old twin girls so congrats on your twins!

My advice is to get the type that tie onto your chairs. I like the Fisher Price Healthy Care ones the best b/c they are super easy to clean and have a tray lid and tray you can put food on in the fridge and just pop it onto the tray. My girls have been using these since about 6 months. I also have a set of the First Years at grandma's house that are good, but the tray swings to the side and I just don't like them as much. They are also easy to fold down and travel with if you go somewhere.

If you get these kind then if you have a kitchen island or a big countertop you can put the non-stick shelf liner paper down and then put the chairs on top. This is great when they are little and saves your back and a mess on the floor. BE CAREFUL and don't leave them alone and stop when they can be big enough to tip over. Duh. :) A lot of times now if we go somewhere to visit I just put them on the floor with the back against the wall and the girls eat in them without being tied to the chair.

If you want to buy a used highchair I think it would be fine as long as they seem clean and you clean them first.

Good luck!

We have a Cicco Polly high chair and really like it - easy to move, recline, etc. The downside is that the trays don't fit in our dishwasher (fits "most" dishwashers - whatever!). Then again, cycle through the 2 trays much more often than I run the dishwasher, so it would only be helpful once in a while. The Polly has a padded seat, but isn't too hard to wash. I thought padded would be nice for comfort, but now I don't think it's necessary. The recline function was really nice when whe was still taking bottles had learned to hold them on her own but had to be propped up. Having wheels is a huge plus - I roll her all over the house to eat while I'm doing other things.

M.,

We got the Fisher Price Space Saver high chair. Here is the link (there is even a review from a mom of twins): http://www.target.com/Fisher-Price-Space-Saver-Highchair-...

We have loved everything about this chair.
1) Price - we got it as a gift, but still a reasonable price.
2) Transitions - at first, you can recline it back so that they can hold their bottle. Then, it goes all the way to upright for when they start finger foods and finally, it changes to a booster chair when they get older.
3) Kitchen space - this definitely depends on the lay out of your home. They strap into your regular dining chairs, so they do not take extra space. We put hers in on of our dining chairs and when she is not in it, I just pull it to the table and it does not take up any extra space in the breakfast area.

I hope this helps!

I did not use a traditional high chair with my kids. I used a sassy seat it is a chair that hooks onto the table. You need a stable table to make it work I had two seats hooked on the table at once. It saved floor space and we could take the seats with us when we traveled. The seats could be put in the dishwasher. It was great. The kids learned to eat dinner with us.When we were finished with the seats I gave them to friends and I know that they have since been past on and are still in use. Before the kids could sit up I used bouncy seats to feed them. Good luck.

Mine is similar to this one. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2508001
The height adjusts up and down (great for feeding from the couch, the table or standing up), the back reclines (great for bottle feeding), it has a removable tray that snaps into the tray (great for when they are really messy and you can toss the mess into the dishwasher), has a toy that snaps into the tray to entertain when you are preparing meals and aren't as fast as they want you to be, and has both lap and shoulder straps to help them when they can't quite sit up yet. I bought mine 2 1/2 years ago from Babies R Us and it's not the same one but very similar. I loved it and will use it with my next child. Oh, one more thing, don't get cloth. This one has a vinyl type material that you can just wash down.

It's been almost a dozen years since we bought ours, but you could lift the seat out of its holder and turn the holder on its side to make a table and chair. We LOVED these chairs and didn't part with them until the boys were probably 3 yrs old. I looked & looked on the 'net for this chair to no avail. They were green & blue, plastic, and probably by Graco. The closest thing I found to what we had is this: Combi Transition High Chair / Toddler Chair Cherry Red, which is selling on ebay for about $30.
Good luck!

I second Cindy L., we bought the Rainforest Highchair and it is great, we bought it when my son was around 5 months old and now he is 21 months and still uses it! Its a great buy and I think we only paid around $75.00 for it and he will continue to use it until he outgrows it, good luck!

I love my Evenflo chair. Don't remember the exact model, but it was on the low end for price. Its simple, but comfortable for my son, and he enjoys using it. The chair cushion is plastic-y for easy clean-up, and it can go in the washing machine.

Hi M.,
With my 1st son someone gave us a Peg Perego highchair that was used but it lasted just fine. Of course being a higher end brand might have been why but still it was used and was fine. With my daughter we decided to go ahead and buy this Evenflo brand but it didn't sit upright as much as I'd have liked, she was almost laying down the whole time. I would definitely check out how many reclining positions there are. I just bought another highchair for my 4 month old, I bought the Baby Trend brand at Babies R Us for $79.99. It has several different reclining positions, a little storage bag underneath the chair and some other nice features. He obviously cannot sit up on his own yet but he sits just fine in this chair and you'd never know that he only turned 4 mo yesterday. The padding is a cute modern look of orange and brown with a circle pattern. I have a friend who had a Baby Trend chair with her little girl and I remember liking their chair way better than the Evenflo we had. That's my advice hope it helps!
