I just received my Quad test results that show the baby is high risk they were 1:50 ratio (positive) high risk zone for D.S.
I know this test can give "false positives" so i went ahead and got the amnio test done yesterday.
Now i have to wait 5-7 days for the results!!! I going crazy.
has anyone else had a positive quad test?
I really need some feedback. Thanks

Thank you to everyone i really need to hear your stories!

What can I do next?

Mine came back as high risk for down syndrome at 1:47. I did all the extra ultrasounds with a specialist, but I didn't do an amnio or CVS. My baby was born in October, and she is perfectly healthy. I know how awful the worrying is though, so I sypathize!

I had the test done when it was a triple screen 11 years ago. They told me the chances of D.S. were very high. I decided right then and there that I would find out only to be prepared for what my baby would need. I went thru genetic counceling and a 3D ultrasound and at the end of that I went to a 1:8 chance. Today my baby is 11 and completely healthy and 'normal' (for as normal as an 11 year old tweener can be :).

That being said, I believe that God only give you what you can handle and the if your baby is D.S. it is because he believes that you can handle it. Try not to stress about it as it isn't good for you or the baby.

2 of my 3 kids both came back with a higher risk. We did the amnio with my second child because a couple abnormalities showed up on the ultrasound. Amio came back clear and the abnormalities all resolved themselves and I now have my son who will be 7 in a couple days who's completely healthy and fine. My third we didn't do the amnio after they found nothing at all wrong in the ultrasound. I now have a happy and healthy 18 month old daughter sitting here on top of me. The amnio with my second had started contractions and I was on bedrest the whole weekend hoping I wasn't going to loose him. Thankfully I didn't :)
I was 30, 33 & 38(almost 39) when I had each of my children so I was already "doomed" to get a higher risk come up because of the equation used in assessing the risk. You're severely penalized for nothing more than a calendar date. When we saw the councelor and answered the list of questions my chances immediately got super smaller.
False positives are extremely common. If the date the test was taken is off by little more than a day or 2 it can be off, your age without any other factors effects your results.
We almost skipped the test with my third. But we decided at the last minute "what will it hurt". We got to find out we were having a girl a week earlier than our scheduled ultrasound with the midwife is the one positive out of doing the test LOL

Sorry you have to wait so long :( thats got to be frustrating and overwhelming at times.

With my second son they thought I had luekimea (spelled wrong sorry) but they didnt tell me until after a battery of tests and they figured out it was from me changing cat litter ONCE.

All I can say is if your sweet child has DS I dont think you will love your child any less. All the children I have come in contact with with DS are so sweet and kind. It may a little more challenging but God knows what he is doing. Your baby will be a miracle either way. Just enjoy your miracle.

Some people who cant have a baby would rather have one with DS than not at all.... Hope that brings peace in your heart.

I received a 1:22 ratio and decided not to have the amnio. My daughter is 3 now and perfectly healthy! Easier said than done, but try not to worry. Wishing you all the best,

My test results came back with a very high ratio (1:30 i believe) at risk for DS (it was a triple screen back then). I decided NOT to do the amnio for what many people below have stated. The risk of miscarriage was just too high and I didn't want to risk it. That was with #1 who is nearly 16 now.

With pregnancies #2 & #3, my results also returned to be in the high risk category. I again declined an amnio. I lost #2 about a week after that for unrelated reasons and #3 is just fine and is now turning 13.

I figured, whatever needs the child had, I was still their Mom and God needed me to parent that child. :) God wouldn't give me more than I can handle.

Whatever the results, hang in there and relax. Stress isn't good for the baby anyway ... :)

Amnio is the most conclusive and accurate.
I had the Amnio with both my pregnancies.
It is a wait... but this is the most accurate test.

all the best,

You can read my older posts about this if you would like. I had a 1 in 18 chance for DS and was referred to a specialist. The U/S showed no markers so I had another Quad screen test done and had more abnormal results. So I opted for the amnio. You should be able to get the FISH results a day sfter the amnio. Those are the preliminary results. After 10 days I got the amnio results that showed she didnt have DS. I gave birth to her on Wednesday (12/15/10) and she is perfectly fine. The amnio is 99.6% accurate. Just hang in there.

5-7 DAYS??? These used to take 3-4 WEEKS! How lucky you are to be able to have results so quickly these days! I work with Special needs kids and although they are lovely, the financial demands, emotional demands and therapy/dr demands are greater then I could myself handle.

I had the quad test done- I wish I hadn't. I tested positive for Down's & neural tube disorders. my OB said results wouldn't be in until after my Level 2 ultrasound. Well I found out 3 days before the ultrasound. I was wreck- constantly crying. Fortunately everyone I was around at the time, knew I was pregnant & I just told them I was hormonal.

Went for the ultrasound & everything was fine!!! I declined the amino- being risk of miscarriage can occur up to a week after the procedure.

If I had it to do again, I wouldn't.

My daughter just turned 4 yr old this week & she is fine!!! A tall, happy healthy girl.

I had a positive quad screen test with my younger daughter for DS (it was about 1:230 which was high for my age at the time-32). I was distraught and the waiting was a nightmare. They referred me for a level 2 ultrasound and found no markers for DS. My odds at that point, after an unremarkable ultrasound, were higher at miscarrying as the result of an amnio than actually having a child with DS. I opted against and amnio and she was born 11/08, no DS. I do understand what you are feeling as it was a horrible waiting game for me. I had to wait over a week between hearing the results and going in for the ultrasound. I didn't eat well, couldn't sleep. I did all the research and yes there is a great proprtion of false positives. I wish you the best. Try to hang in there.

To clarify, there is no "positive." The test can come back with an elevated risk, or a low risk. Not a positive, or a negative. I tested, at a very high risk (especially, for my age) and decided against the amnio, but my son was born perfectly happy and healthy. The great majority of people I met with high risk test results, had normal babies. Try not to worry yourself, these situations almost always turn out with no abnormalities in the baby.
