I would take her to the hospital. If she is lathargic like you say, that is a definite sign something is wrong.

My 11 month old daughter has been running a fever all night. Yesterday all day she wasn't acting like herself, and we couldn't get her to eat her regular baby food. She started with a temp of 102.5 gave her some Ibprofen. In an hour it came down to 101.7 we checked it again several hours later and it was back up to 103.3. Called her dr. and her dr. said to try Tylonol instead. I gave her that, and we both fell asleep. I just checked it a little bit ago, and it was 104.6 gave her some more tylonol, but that doesn't seem to be working. All she does is lay there and sleep, or just lay there and look at me. she isn't fussy, or letting me know if anything hurts. She is still drinking and peeing normal. But I am worried about how high her fever is getting. We tried calling her dr. again, and the dr. office said "everyone is in a meeting, 104.6 is not an emergency, check her in an hour, if it hasn't come down, call us back after 1:30 p.m." its 12:30 p.m. right now. Any suggestions what good be wrong, or what I should do??
ok, after calling the dr. numerous times and continueing her tylonol, and it still would only come down a little, and then right back up in a couple of hours. Its 4:45 p.m. and her fever is back up to 103.8 We FINALLY got the dr. office to give us an appointment at 6:15 tonight after I took a nap with Briana and woke up because of a terrible nightmare that some thing really bad happened to her. I will update when we get back on how every thing went... Thank you for all your advice I really appreciate it!!!!
Ok, we just got back from the dr. office. Turns out she has a bad ear infection. The dr. said it was normal for her not to pull at her ears or give me any sign of her ears hurting. So he gave us a prescription for Amoxicillan and sent us home. So hopefully she will be better in a couple days.
She has had two doses of amoxicillan and a couple doses of tylenol. its 12/22/06. I got her up this morning and her fever was down. She is actually playing with her toys, instead of just laying there. And now she is acting like she is hungry for her morning cereal. Some thing she hasn't had in going on three days now because i couldn't get her to take anything but a bottle. Thank you all for your help, and advice!!!

If you have any concerns that there is something wrong, you know your own child better then a receptionist on the other end of the phone...GO TO THE ER of your local hospital...at worst they will send you home with instructions on how to care for your baby...but if it is something serious they can take care of things at that time. You have the peace of mind that a doctor has seen her and that you have the support of the medical staff to voice your concerns.
At 104-105 young children can have seizures...so you want to get that fever down...if tylenol and/or Ibuprophen isn't helping then try a room temp wet washcloth on her head and take off her clothing and have her in a tee-shirt and diaper. Do not cover her with a blanket as this will increase her temp. If she starts to shiver then cover her with a light sheet/blanket to stop the shivering as that will increase her temp.
Trust your instincts...if you are this concerned then go to the hospital....they can help you more then we can....Good Luck and GOd Bless.
I don't know, but if it were me I would be going to the ER. My oldest daughter would spike fevers like that and she would go into seizures. That is very scary. My pediatrician said anything over 100.5 is considered a fever. I am shocked that they aren't having you come in. When my younger daughter ran 102 degree fever for what seemed like no reason they sent me to the ER in the middle of the night for a viral/bacterial workup and the second time it happend they had me come in. It could be anything from an ear infection, strep throat, to RSV. I would ask to be seen. 104.6 is high in anyone especially a newborn.
And my sister is a pharmacist - you can alternate tylenol and motrin every 2 hours (tylenol at 12:30 motrin at 2:30 and so on around the clock) when my oldest daughter started having seizures, the doctor verified this information.
At the ER where I work, we consider a temp over 103 enough of an emergency to take the child directly back to the main ER to be seen more quickly. My kids' doctor has always had us come right in if they had a temp that high. One thing I would suggest is to alternate the tylenol and the ibuprofen, you can give your daughter both. Also, don't keep her all bundled up (we see tons of parents that do that and it just keeps the temp elevated). Personally, if it was me, I'd take my child in to the ER if the temp stayed that high. Good luck and I hope she's feeling better soon!

How's she doing? My son just got over a nasty flu, it sounds very similar. We alternated every other dose w/ ibuprofen and tylenol, cool baths, a cool mist humidifier, lots of fluids. I hope she is okay!
It could be an ear infection. I would suggest making an appointment and demanding the doc figure out why the fever is so high. Make sure that he gets a really good look at the ears, not just a quick glance. If it's not the ears then their must be a reason why the temp is so high!! DEMAND answers!!
For stubborn fever, alternate the tylenol with the ibuprophen...give the ibuprophen then about 3 hours later give a dose of tylenol...also make a luke warm bath (luke warm: stick your elbow in the water and if you can't feel the water then it's the right temp) and sit in there with her sponging the water over her and letting her play with some toys (never leave the child unattended in the tub for even a second as it only takes a teaspon of water for a child to drown). And keep the child, when not in the tub, stripped down to a diaper...the more clothes and/or blankets you add the higher the temp will go. Also be sure that you offer plenty of liquids to keep her hydrated...popsicles are great for fevers and hydration.
WARNING: Do not use COLD water in the tub and do not us alchol as it can lower her core temp to quickly and put her in shock. Also do not use asprin as it can cause ryes syndrome.
Now...being that this stubbor temp is shooting so high...I would recommend saying the hell with the doctor and take the child to the emergency room. 101 degrees is enough to get the child physically checked out...103 or higher can actually lead to ferbril seizures. At this point you need to know what is causing the child's temp to spike so high...if it's bacterial she'll need antibiotics, if it's viral then it will just have to run it's course, but you won't know until she is examined and tests are run.
Anything over 103.0 is considered urgent for infants and toddlers and even adults. After 103.0 the brain does not know how to cope with the heat and fever seizures sometimes occur. You can check her symptoms on www.Webmd.com. And that is what I was told by my fathers hospice nurse and my peditrician. I hope your little one feels better soon.
You can alternate Tylenol and motrin every two to four hours - I find though that motrin works better. Or if they are having a fever that won't go away use Feverall. Its a suppository but it really gets to the heart of the fever. Otherwise go to urgent care or the er - There is some bug going around so they probably are not as concerned about a temp of 104 if it does come down some with medicine. Good luck.
you need to rotate tylenol and ibruprofen every 2 hours when her fever is high make sure she has plenty liquids, popsicles whatever you can get her to drink food isnt that imp whenhigh temp arise but if her fever doesnt go down when eating ice chips tyleno ibru rotation need to take to emergency room anything over 104
Sorry late, hope she is well
My children run high fevers. Some kids do. It is scarey. Go with your instinct as a mom always and if it is that high and you are alternating meds and try getting her in a tub of lukewarm water and it stays up then take her immediately. If it goes down with meds and treatment, still get in as soon as you can with your doctor.
I would be prett worried, but that's just me..Honestly, if it was me, I would take her to the emergency just to be sure..If they are not acting like themselves when they have fever, high or not, that is an extreme cause for concern according to my daughters Dr. office.. And since the temp is not going down but a couple degrees & is consistent like that, that is also a red flag..Better to be safe than sorry, I wouldn't wait on the Dr. office, I'd take her in to hospital.. My daughter who is now 19 months, had meningitis at 4 months (and was up to date on her vaccines) & had high fever temps like that, that only went down a degree or two & she just laid there, basically looked awefull, but she really wouldnt drink..She had the fever almost 3 days, it happend on the weekend, so the Dr.'s on call just kept telling me to wait..You can alternate Motrin and Tylenol..But, you have to wait 3 hours in between, for instance..If you gave her Tylenol at 1:30, you can give her Motrin at 4:30 & it last 6-8 hours, then she can have Tylenol on the next round, it's just doing them in between each other..I have had to do that when my daughter had some virus that was basically just a fever for about 5 days..But, it went down more than a degree or two after the doses & she acted herself intil the fever came back when the meds wore off. So that worries me that your daughter isn't acting herself & that it's not coming down....Best of Luck I hope she is ok :)
If your uncomfortable then I would take her to an urgent care facility (MedCheck). I am surprised the doctor's office is holing you off. Good luck.
Strip the baby down to a diaper. Start using cool to tepid washcloths on the back of the neck, and under both arms. Replace them often (10-15 minutes). Use the tylenol & Ibuprophen every two hours, alternating them. If the temp does not come down, get into a tepid bath, or I always got them in the shower with me so they would feel secure.
