Try a few drops of lemon juice. Its sounds crazy - my mother-in-law showed me the trick when my oldest was about 7 weeks old and it worked! It only takes like 2 drops ... and the face that they make is priceless!
Good luck :)

The hiccups are awful...but they happen a lot in little ones. The only thing you can do is love on them and make them as comfortable as possible.

Unfortunately, there really isn't. It's just something they have to ride out. My now 7 mo. old had them a lot the first couple of months but almost never now. I am thinking she outgrew the frequency. I know it upsets them and you in the process but you just have to cuddle them and pat them and hope they don't last too long. Good luck and congrats!!

Hi D. congratulations on your baby. I know this may sound mean but it works. Try gently blowing in her face
more toward the mouth a few times. It will make her catch her breath and this helps. I've done that with my children & grandchildren. They don't seem to mind it and it works. God bless you & your new family.

No need. I laugh and say my first born had hiccups his entire first year. Some kids are just like that. My other boys rarely get them...so weird! It bothers you way worse than them.

Go to Walgreens and get some gripe water. It's on the children's aisle next to Mylicon. It works everytime and is great for tummy issues too. You can only get it at Walgreens though and it's about $11/bottle. It's well worth it though and both of my kids love it (tastes like black liquorice). Hope this helps!!

GRIPE WATER!!! It's all natural and works instantly... it is kinda of expensive but it was well worth it to us, because my baby girl gets hiccups ALL the time and she does not like them one bit. It's safe to use for even the youngest babies... I love it! Good luck

There is no way to get rid of them, they are miserable and sometimes take a long time to go away, but there is nothing you can do. Some babies get them a lot. I assume since you are asking how to get rid of them it is because your baby is getting them a lot. My baby had them in the womb and she got them about every hour of her wakeful life for the first 6 months, I felt so sorry for her and they would upset her very badly, but there is nothing that you can do, especially at the young age of 2 weeks. We have found now that my daughter is older that if you give her a dill pickle they go away instantly. Medical experts say that vinegar makes them go away and there is vinegar in the pickles, so I guess that is why. But you couldn't dare give that to a 2 week old. The poor baby and you will just have to tough it out. I do know hoe to prevent them somewhat though. Most of the time, the reason babies get the hiccups is because their diaphragm is scrunched up, so if you will try to keep her laying on her back, laying on her tummy, or when you are holding her, hold her laying straight rather than curved, this should prevent them quite a bit. They will get them the most when they are crunched up in car seats, swings, bouncy chairs, etc. Good luck!

Laugh if you want or call it "stupid", but our mom and all hispanics families go by this remedy, very cheap, also. Take a piece of red thread (has to be red), about 6 in. long, moisten it with your saliva, wad it up and place it on the baby's forehead. Works all the time. We continue the tradition with our kids and I hope they do the same with their kids. Of course, once the hiccups are gone, remove the thread and throw it away. Use a fresh thread every time he/she gets the hiccups. Good luck and just have faith!!

There's really no way to get rid of them and the baby probably doesn't mind (or even notice) them. It's more painful and annoying to adults than babies.

Sugar water!!! Just a little bit was all we had to give. Plus you don't have to go out and buy anything. I never tried the Gripe water, but have always heard a lot of people have success with it. We always got rid of the hiccups with the sugar water with my daughter and still do to this day. She's almost five. I think it forces them to really taste what they are drinking and drink it slower. I think that's the key. You would think sugar water would be gulped down but my daughter never would. She'd just drink a little bit of if and it would make them get rid of them. I hope you find something for your brand new baby!! Congrats by the way!!! Just FYI, another old wives tale that always worked with us, for a tummy ache, crushed peppermint candy in warm water. Always soothed her tummy. She never had colic, but it might help with it.
Good Luck!!!!

My daughter (6-wks old) is the hiccup-queen! There's very little you can do except nurse or give her/him a pacifier to shorten the episode. Really, the hiccups really do bother you more than them. It's perfectly normal for your baby to get the hiccups very often right now. They will get them less and less as they get older. Just hang in there!

Sometimes babies, children and adults get the hiccups due to overstimulation.
Find a good occupation therapist familiar with sensory integration. Services for children younger than 3 are free from early childhood programs.

The only thing that works for us is that bottle of Gripe Water (from CVS, Walgreens ... not sure if Walmart carries it) ... Look in the baby aisle - near diaper rash creams or look in medicine/cold/cough aisle - where the infant tylenol is kept.
It says on the bottle that Gripe Water is good for colic and hiccups. We only saw that it worked for hiccups - didn't do a thing for her crying spells. Instant relief from the hiccups! Do as suggested on the bottle --- dispense it in the side of the cheek -- they are more likely to swallow all of it that way instead of spitting it out.
And don't worry - it's homeopathic - really it's ginger and water. there's no medicine in it.
