Just wanting to find out if any of your children have been diagnosed with this? My niece is 14 months and she has 8 lesions in her mouth and on her tongue. The Dr. said this is common in children because they put everything in the mouths. I just want to know if your child has had this illness and because it's herpes of course she will carry it for life but I am just wondering how often it may come back or any remedies at all for the pain, she is miserable and my sister in law is a wreck.

What can I do next?

My son was diagnosed with that when he was just about the same age and the doctors told me to go ahead and put baby oral gel on his little soars and told me to rinse his mouth as often as i could with salt water and once they went away which took about a week and a half or so and they have never come back since and he is almost 3 now.

My daughter had this last year when she was two. The dentist thought she might have gotten it from someone who had a cold sore. What a nightmare. Just make sure she is getting plenty of fluids, so she does not get dehydrated. This is very painful for them. My daughter did not eat anything. I gave her popsicles. A helpful remedy or something that helps for a short time is to have her swish her mouth with Benedryl, it kind of numbs the mouth with some milk of magnesia. Since she is so little, I don't know if she can. It just takes time to heal. My daughter has never had a cold sore or anything since, thank god. But God I feel for your sister. It is awful. Have her call the dentist or ask her Dr. how much Benedryl the baby can have. Hope this helps.

my daughter had this when she was about 16 months. Has not had it again (she is 22 months). Liquid Benadryl and Maalox mixture was recommended by my pediatrician. Worked well to sooth the soreness. Make sure your niece does not react to Benadryl by getting hyper. Check with pediatrician on dosing. Also needed to use regular cup for drinking since straws and sippy cups irritated the condition for a couple of days.

Is there any way it could be "Hand foot and mouth disease?" My daughter had milky white lesions in her mouth and tongue at age 2. It never spread beyond that, lasted a few days, and was gone. This is another common childhood illness.
Good luck!

Hi J.,

I am not familiar with that particular form of herpes. However, chronic viral infections can respond well to daily supplementation with Lysine. This is virtually side effect free in adults, but I am not sure with kids under 2 and you may need to hunt around for a liquid formula. Check with her pediatrcian about the Lysine, otherwise there are antiviral meds that can be taken, but again not sure about pediatric use. I am a Chiropractor and I have worked with a local naturapath that I really like, who may have some more ideas. If you are interested in her name, please email me directly and I put you in touch with her. ____@____.com Good luck! D.

Feed the child cool foods: yogourt, cottage cheese, ice cream. Avoid heat and hot drinks. Give her lots of cool, clean water, and change cups frequently, or use disposable paper goods. Throughout her life she'll need to get lots of sleep, and drink lots of water. It'll improve with time.

Also, give homeopathic remedies for relief, like camomilla.
