I had Hernia surgery 10 days ago. It was literally right above my belly button and the drs had to cut the top of my belly button in half. From what I was told I didn't have to have the normal Mesh put in. But right now I am getting pain around the surgical wound. I think they put stitches inside and then put those liquid stitches on the outside. I am not supposed to pick up more then 15lbs and my oldest son is 25lbs. Sometimes I have to pick him up when my husband gets called into work even though he's in leave. (he's in the army) Has anyone had any pain after the surgery that didn't feel right? I can assure you I feel no other pain or discomfort, the pain was minimum and I left the same day I had my surgery. Drs have me on Percocet but I only take one right before I go to bed for the pain. Any ideas of what to do? I will be making a drs appointment first thing tomorrow. Thanks for any help and experience.

I had an umbilical hernia with the mesh put in 2005. It was a more difficult recovery than the 2 c-sections I've had since then. When they say don't pick up more than 15lbs, then don't. My mom didn't listen after her hysterectomy and she had problems for years. I would talk to your doctor and have him make sure it is all ok. I also know that if you have stitches instead of the mesh, the possibility for ripping out is much higher!

Be creative and find ways to care for him so that you don't have to pick him up. For example: instead of putting him in the high chair, sit on the floor with him. He can nap on the floor or on a bed that he can crawl up on. It's very important to follow the doctor's advice.

Perhaps you could have an older child come over to help you. By older I mean 8-10 or more.

My SIL had hers repaired 2x. After her second, she said it didn't feel right for an entire year. She wore her brace for quite awhile.

I would see what the doctor tells you.

You may have pulled something. They tell you not to pick up stuff for a reason since your muscles will strain and can tear open a wound. I would see the doctor. My husband had a small hernia fixed and had zero pain afterwards, although I think they inserted mesh in his.

Definately see the doctor. Sometimes these guys leave sponges in the body.
I am not trying to scare you. Just go to the doctor and get an assessment.
