I had to go to the proctologist while pregnant b/c the tucks pads and Prep H did NOTHING for me! He gave me Lidocaine HCL 3%-Hydrocortisone Acetate 0.5% cream which worked wonders!!! If the other stuff doesn't help, maybe this will!
Hello girls!
I have a big fat hemroid. Ugh. I have asked my doctor what to do and they said preperration H and tucks. I just started that last night. But I just wanted to ask all of you because I have been getting the BEST advice from this site. Is there anything else I can do to get rid of it? And if I don't what will happen during labor?
thanks for your time!

I hate them. One time I had it and it was real big and I didn't know that it was a hemmorraid because it was so big. The mid wife looked at and said, yep, it's hemorroid. The natural thing to do and it works and I ddn't get a chance to try it but it went back in is to get a Rustic Potatoe and slice it thin as if to make potatoe chips and put one slice on there and it shrinks it up. That is natural and done of that other stuff and you may have that again with pushing a baby out, but there are natural things to do to make labor easy if you are the type who can go through labor naturally. I couldn't go into labor on my own and unfortuately had to have pitocin for all three of my boys. Oh well, but I am into natural, healthy foods and etc. Let me know how it went with the potatoe slice if you choose that route.
Hi C.,
I've been a lifetime sufferer of hemorrhoids and they're even worse when I pregnant, naturally. Prep H along with the tucks pads work best for me, and warm baths or sitting in warm water helped to soothe them. Make sure you're drinking lots of water and taking in enough fiber so that your bowel movements aren't strained. Don't worry, when you're in labor, you won't even be thinking about them! Other kinds of pain completely take over!

From what I've read, sugar and candida overload can contribute to hemorrhoids. I would pay attention to cleaning up your diet, making sure you are getting enough fiber & lots & lots of pure water. Did I mention lots of water? lol Simple carbs are the same as eating sugar, lots of hidden sugar in soda, juice drinks etc.
If you can't give something up without resorting to artificial sweetner, stay with the sugar.
And lots of water. :)
Take a shallow hot bath for 15-20 minutes 2x per day. It will help with pain and shrink it.
C.,
I feel your pain. When I gave birth, a bunch of hemroids came out and it was hell!! But I did the following and they went away within a week. Well what I did was the pads, the cream and the sits bath. Thats basically sitting in warm to hot water about 3 times a day for 20 minutes. They sell the seats in any pharmecy. this helped alot, but what also helped while doing all of this was staying off your feet. Try to stay laying down, preferably on your side for as much as possible. When your standing or sitting for a long period of time, it puts alot of pressure on the hemroid so it will take a longer time for it to shrink and go away. So I think with the cream, pads, and the sits bath and staying off your feet as much as possible, you will heal a whole lot faster, hopefully as quick as I did. But do prepare .. .they may come back if you plan on giving birth naturally. The pushing will make them come out but do everything again and you will be fine. Good luck!!!
don't push when going to the bathroom and make sure you eat a lot of bran cereal, grain type bread and a lot of green veggies..like spinach and lettuce.. this will help too. good luck.. allie~~even a small cup of prune juice in the a.m. will help too..
It appears noone mentions that sometimes they don't go away after the pregnancy is over..... My Doctor said if it doesnt go away within a couple of months after giving birth, it is not likely to do so. She was right.
There is an easy medical procedure to shrink it back.
Hi C.,
Sorry for your situation. My husband gets them a lot. So he started using wipes and they started going away. So do what the doctor said use the tucks and H. Once its gone use the wipes everytime you go number 2. This should help keep them away some. (Any flushable wipes they sale are fine). What every you like, I buy pathmark brand wipes he seems to like them more. Also, I would not flush them, even if they say flushible. I had to pay a big bill with the plumber because they did not flush. Go figure. :)
My sister, AKA-Supermom & mother of 11, has experienced hemoroids with many of her pregnancies. Both Preparation H and Tucks have been extremely helpful in solving the problem but I have noticed that soaking in a tub and using moist wipes while using the creams & medicated wipes helped to make the process go by swifter. It seems to soften the area and make it better to receive the medications. Hopefully this is helpful to you.
i've had the same one since i was pregnant with my first one three yrs. ago...it comes & goes. now i'm 8 months with baby no. 2 & it's back in full force. not fun at all. definatly prep. h - keep it clean, i use adult flushable wipes after a bm then cream it up. a warm soaking bath may help soothe the area. books say to keep moving but the more i move & walk, the more irritated it gets. using the cream before bed helps by morning but after a bm it's irritated again :) good luck!
Try sitz baths, sitting with your legs elevated for some time every day and drinking lots & lots of water. They can be caused or aggravated by straining to have a bowel movement so if you are experiencing constipation, you may want to speak to your OB about using a stool softener. In the mean time, make sure you are eating lots of fruits, veges and whole grain foods and getting plenty of fluid.
I know the 'roids are nasty but sometimes it is just part of a woman's pregnancy reality - we all get something!!! It will likely not go away completely until after baby is born and the amount of blood in your veins goes back to normal (you have approximately 50% more blood volume when pregnant). Also the increased size and weight of your uterus is a contributor to hemhorroids and it stands to reason that once you deliver baby and the uterus returns to normal, that pressure into your bottom will reduce.
As for labor, the less directed (or purple) pushing you do, the better off your bottom is. You can talk to your doctor about letting your body "labor down" which basically means not encouraging you to push (even tho you may be fully dilated) until you feel a strong urge. This generally results in less pushing overall and less forceful pushing in general. It is good for most women in general but especially so when we are trying to be oh so gentle on your bottom.
Hope this helps!
very common. try pushing it back in with your finger. could definitely become worse after pushing baby out. i had surgery on them 6 weeks after baby. haven't really had a problem since and i'm heavier and had another pregancy. surgery was 15 years ago.
Very common during pregnancy. I actually had a labor/pushing related hemoroid with my first child and it 'flared' up with each of the others.
You've gotten good advice: lots of fluids, fruits/veggies and fiber. Don't strain when during bm's. Prep H and Tucks will relieve the discomfort, try pushing it back in with a tucks after each bm. I found putting the cream on the tucks pad worked best, especially at night.
If it starts to bleed call your dr and make sure that your nurse gets you plenty of Tucks after delivery.
Feel good and have a healthy baby!
Besides fruit and veggies, using Benefiber or Fiber tablets help so you don't need to push, on top of using the tucks and cream.
i had as well. while you're in teh shower put a hot wash cloth on the area, which helps to shrink it. you will have even bigger hemmoroids from pushing during labor. but they go away or at least shrink back down in size. that will be the least of your worries during this time. lol.
