Ok so I got up this morning to ants. not a few ants but literally hundreds of those little bitty tiny ants. my mom used to call them piss ants when we were little. I hate spraying raid on my counters. How do you get rid of these without that option? anyone have a great home remedy to get rid of them? I hate ants. They are all over the counter, in the sink, along the wall in the family room and son says he has had some upstairs in his bedroom on the same wall.

Hi S.,

Believe it or not, but you can use regular table salt or orange rines (sp?). There is something that is in those that ants don't like because it dries out their bodies. So, find out where they're coming in from and put salt or the orange rines there and that should take care of them.

I hope that this helps!:o)

spray windex on them. i worked for a pest control company and that is what we told customers to do before the tech would come out. 95% of the time it got rid of them. good luck. also put bounce drier sheets in the areas. it helps repel them.

My "bug guy" suggested Terro to me for ants - you can get it at Home Depot type stores. I cut a straw into about an inch length, and squeeze the Terro in there. Place the straws wherever you see the ants. The ants traipse through it and carry it back to their nest. It does seem to work.

Caveat - if you have little kids or pets who may get into it please read the warning label and be cautious with it.

Good luck - I detest ants.

If they are in the roof/walls - you need some professional help.
Could be carpenter ants and they can do damage like termites if you don't get rid of them.
Clean your counter completely - no sugar or food residue - they are looking for food and check your food/sugar in the pantry - you'll need to store food in ant proof containers.
It there are trees over hanging your house - trim them so ants can't drop down from above and clean out gutters - they can start colonies there.
Have professional help get rid of the ants inside and then have them spray a perimeter around your house on the outside to help prevent the buggers coming back inside.
I used to love diazonine crystals for spreading around the house outside once a year to prevent bugs from coming in, but they eventually banned it for not breaking down fast enough. It sure was effective.
You can get some diatomacious earth from anywhere that sell pool supplies and sprinkle that around the perimeter outside.
Good luck!

Hands down Terro does the job. You can get granuals to put outside and they sell a self contained unit (encased in plastic) at Menards. This stuff is toxic if injested so you can't put it where a pet or child would get it. My son (7 years old) leaves it alone. Once you put this stuff down with in 2 hours you will have a swarm of ants. They ingest it and take it back to the nest. You may have to do a couple of applications, but you will no longer have an ant problem. I too do not like to use chemicals inside my house, but this stuff works.

I sprinkle baby powder in the corners and cracks where I think they are coming in and they cant breathe walking thru it. It stops their scent trail too so they cant figure out where they are going so they turn back. It smells nicer than a lot of other things too, and you can vacuumn it up after a couple days and your vacuumn bag will smell nice too.

The only thing I use, they haven't been back and it is VERY safe if you have little ones.
Mix Powder sugar and Boric acid equal parts. The POWDER sugar will attract them and will make them want to eat it and the Boric acid kills them ALL OF THEM. put the mixure wherever they are coming from.
It works THE BEST!!

Tetro liquid ant bait does wonders! I tried the all of the natural things like cinnamon. They did not work long term. Tetro is all natural. Pets can eat it, it is not a chemical poison. And it is cheap!!!! You can get it at Walmart.

WE have them too. Got up this morning and there they were again. I am literally 'shouting' them out. Grabbed a spray container of Shout it Out and they seem to temporarily get rid of them. I am looking for other answers myself. My husband has put every known thing around the house to get rid of them. Can't wait to see the other answers.

Mine were in the bathroom only they were attracted to water, I cleaned to destroy their scent trail, and for a few days I dried my sink after every use and they went away,

Squash as many as you can. Then sprinkle boric acid along their path and at their entry point. Look outside and see if you can find where they're getting into the house and sprinkle boric acid there too. You can get it at the pharmacy.

Ants navigate by sending out scouts who search randomly. When they find something, they leave a scent trail that other ants follow. Each ant that follows it makes the scent trail stronger. If you can disrupt the scent trail, they can't follow it anymore.

Wash well, clean up whatever's attracting them, and mess up their scent trails.

In addition, you can put something desirable *outside* and ask the ants to go eat that instead. We used to throw all the crumbs from under the high chair out the back door.

You are not alone. I seem to get them in the summer time. They get upstairs in my bathroom. I have found them in my kitchen, living room and bathrooms. I filled in holes with caulk, but it didnt help. i could never figure out where they were comming from. I finally broke down and sprayed raid and now they are not as bad. Goog luck.. i'll be reading your answers for help too as i still have them. Been a couple weeks. They are nasty.
