We just got over a bout of head lice and trust me you would find white tear drop shaped egg sacks at the root shaft or within 1/4 inch of the root. You might also find live lice that have a translucent body and brownish inerts.
Don't over do the lice shampoos because lice can become immune to the medicine. Try looking up homepathic remedies you find on-line.
Good Luck!!!
Well it's not lice beause lice are white and they itch and you can see them and they will go away when you use the medicated shampoo. Not sure what that could be so you may have to take her to the doctor.
Do a hot wash on all her bedding, pillows, and any furniture pillows you can. Do the lice treatment with the comb. YOu can also check her bed for bedbugs... spray down her mattress and if she has carpet. Also, just take her to a dermatologist to get checked. Perhaps they will let u know what the black things are.
I suggest you go to her pediatrician maybe (with a shower cap on her head? she shouldn't need it with all that shampoo washing she did) and get their advice. Using zip-lock, bag up the black things she finds in her hair so they can look at it.
Meanwhile, STOP USING ANTI-LICE STUFF, TAKE IT AWAY FROM HER. Go on and be sure to wash all bedding (sheets, blankets, pillows) in her room at hot temperature, (and dry at hot temp.) Have your Daughter help with removing and replacing the sheets, etc.). Have HER vacuum her mattress, as well as ALL the furniture and, rugs/floor in the home. Have HER place stuffed toys in a trash bag and put today's date on it. This will give her plenty to do until you get advice from the doctor.
If she's not itching, it doesn't sound like lice. If she does have lice and they are not in the hair, then it is most likely body lice, which lives in clothes. Body Lice eggs will wait up to 4 weeks, for the warmth of the body, to hatch, so wash her whole wardrobe IF the pediatrician thinks it's a good idea. Don't ruin clothes, if a special item can't take hot temp. then try bagging it and put it in the freezer. I'm not sure how long -3+ days maybe- check the internet...
Good for you to reach out for help- Lice can frighten friends and neighbors and community helpers so it's easy to get isolated with just the question. When I acquired them, my Husband didn't have good enough eye sight and I wasn't allowed to go to the doctor office or school, etc. for someone to check for me. I couldn't check myself! I lost a week of work solving the problem and then getting rid of them. Meanwhile, my son, who was two, had to deal with my isolation too.
At the same time, my friend worried she had them and spent weeks cleaning home and washing all bedding, etc. and washing her children's hair and inspecting family heads. After a MONTH, she let a friend help and look at her family's scalps. We determined she'd been fighting dandruff the whole time. Help your daughter follow a safe regimen to rid her "lice" and then get an informed opinion from an outsider to keep objective.
here is a website about lice..

Good luck
If it were me I would take her to the Dr. If she does have lice then you will know for sure. I thought my daughter had lice once and I called the Drs office, they told me I would see the lice. It turned out to be little flecks of dirt.

This site tells you what to look for... google "head lice," and I am sure you can find more.
M.,
That does not sound like lice, lice is tiny white bugs that move and she would be itching her head all the time. I would take her to the doctors for sure to make sure and see what she has so it can be properly treated.
Good Luck.

Exactly what the previous responder said. Head lice is extremely itchy and is white in color. Good luck.
Just a note that no one else mentioned, if it does turn out to be lice, you need to wash everything in very hot water!! Her bedding, towels, brushes, any hats she wears ect.... So you do not get rid of them and then get them back! Do not share towels and brushes until it is figureds out :)
If you think it's lice, take her to the doctor -- now that school's out, otherwise I'd recommend have the school nurse check it out. Another poster said she'd be scratching if it were lice -- well, my then 5yo daughter had lice + never scratched...but she gave them to me + yes, it was itchy. I guess she has a higher tolerance to them than I did.
Does she wear a helmet for bike riding or other activities? Sounds like a foam liner is breaking down into black dust. I had a pair of headphones like that, and the deteriorating foam was all over my shoulders like black dandruff before I figured out what it was. She'd be scratching with lice.

Hello! I'm sorry you are going through this!
Please let your daughter know that lice is NOT black - it's white.
STOP using the lice products immediately! Call your pediatrician and get an appointment!
Give your daughter a plastic baggie to put the things she has found in her hair so you can take those to the pediatrician.
If she believes she has lice - which I don't think she does - she would need to clean her bed - wash her pillow(s), sheets (weekly) and bed linens. Any and all stuffed animals would need to be put in black garbage bags for 7 days.
I hope this gets resolved soon!
Best regards,
Cheryl
I believe head lice are white so it wouldn't be that. Not sure what it could be though.
Lice are white not black. If you aren't sure go to her doctor but if you are using lice shampoo and using that comb I doubt there is too much to worry about but I would check webmd.com and consult with a doctor.
