Help...need Baby Names!!

Hi, I am preg. with our third child, which is due in 5 weeks. We are super excited...except we have no idea what we are going to name him. It is a boy. We all have "J" first names, so we would like to give the baby one too, although, we are getting to the point of looking at other names as well. The real catch is my husband is hispanic and would love to name this baby a hispanic name. I hate the jota sound, like juan, and prefer the j sound like john. Every name that we have thought we liked, one of us ends up hating within a few days. With the first two, neither of us really got what we wanted, we picked the first name down both of our lists...that doesn't seem to be working with this one. So...does anyone have any name suggestions! First (even if it doesn't start with a "J") and middle! Just looking for more names that we haven't considered yet and some fresh ideas. Thank you so much.

What can I do next?

Since you said you may consider names that do not begin with a "J" I love the names Reese & Perrin. Perhap's you could use either for a middle name if not first? They are my son's names. :)

Best wishes for a speedy delivery!

Ever since I heard Kelly Ripa talk about her son joaquim I've just loved the name, it's very elegant and you hardly ever hear it! Good luck!

As a teacher, I can tell you there are millions of Jacobs out there currently. Unless you want him to be Jacob H. all the way through school, I'd stay away from it. I like Joaquin a lot (almost picked it for my son) but if you want a J name without a jota sound, and you want to reflect your child's Hispanic heritage, it's going to be tough. How about a G name or an Anglesized Latin name (like Xavier instead of Javier or Jerald (jerry) instead of Jeraldo).

What about Jesse Jacob or Jerimiah John or Justin?

What is your last name? That's important to create a smooth sounding name. What about using a last name as a first name?

Do a basic internet search for Hispanic names. There are websites dedicated to just that and hopefully you will come up with something. Here is a list from one site:

Jairo, Javier, Javiero, Jax, Jerardo, Jeremias, Jerico, Jerold, Jeronimo, Jerrald, Jerrold, Jesus, Joaquin, Jonas,
Jorge, Jose, Joselito, Josias, Josue, Josue, Juan, Juanito, Julian, Juliano, Julio, Justino

Hi J. - congrats on your upcoming new arrival!

Here are some babynaming resources that I found invaluable when looking for names for my 2 kids (the youngest is 6 months now).

This one is a blog on baby naming - lots of suggestions and food for thought.

What you want to do is load/open the Name Voyager. It is an interactive database that will show you on a graph how popular a given name was in any particular year (goes up to 2006, 2007 data has not yet been released) starting from the 1880s. This one was really important to me, since having grown up with classes full of Lisas and Michelles, but not meeting another C. until I was in 11th grade, I wanted my kids to have not-common names. (Jacob, for example has been the #1 name for boys since 2000 and was #5 in the 90's - there are going to be dozens at any particular school, and probably multiples in many classes.)

http://www.nymbler.com/
This is a newer one that didn't debut until after I had already decided on names for my most recent DD. Nymbler actually suggests names, once you give it some you like or dislike. = )

A book I liked to look through (the FFX Co library has it, check on yours) was "Beyond Jennifer & Jason". Instead of focusing on 'name meanings', it focused on current perceptions of names (like, would you think a Bambi is smart or a Warren is a jock or an Ethel is a model?) Neat food for thought. = )

I agree that it's hard to suggest names without knowing your last name, I feel that the whole name needs to flow. Also, from what you're saying, I doubt you'll find a 'J' name that is hispanic that you will like, since you don't like the jota sound. Only one that comes to mind is Jorge (sounds like George - 'Geor-hay' - no jota sound, but no 'j' sound either.

Good luck!

I like Javi - which is short for Javier. My daughter had an adorable Javi in her preK class. One of her best friends.
