"My First Baby" is very old and sick. I think it is time to put her down which is killing me. I have called a few places and it is soooooooo expensive. Can anyone help? My heart and soul is broken over this.

What can I do next?

Hi,
I am so sorry for what you are going through.....
We just had one of our first babies put to sleep and we found out that there are people who will come to your home. Dr. Pearson is a vet who does it on her time off so that you can keep your pet in the comfort of your own home. I do know that it is more expensive...but very worth it to us. Her Business is called Peaceful Pathways for Pets. Her website is www.peacefulpathwaysforpets.com . Her phone number is ###-###-####.
Our vet sent us a card telling us, "to always remember her with smiles".....and that has helped me enormously after losing our pet!
Take Care!

I don't know if the Humane Society will put her down for you at little or no cost, but you might want to call them and ask. I'm sorry to hear about her illness. I know your pain several times over!

At the vet I worked for in Bedford, it was about $30 to euthanize and another $30 for burial at the pet cemetary.
Cremation is a lot more expensive. Keep calling around... it's worth a small expense to help your loved pet pass on in peace.

One reason why places charge a lot more, is because they administer the drug through an iv... which takes longer to take effect so that the "parents' of the pet can hang around and hold it for awhile as the pet slowly dies in their arms. Sometimes, they also give a drug that can relax the animal as well, also adding to the cost, but not all vets do this. The iv method is more expensive. The cheaper ones usually just give them a shot of the drug and it works within seconds.

I saw you are in Flower Mound, have you tried Dr Shaffer at Flower Mound Veterinary Hospital? I have always found his prices to be much better than the other vets around. He is a great vet too. ###-###-####

You really just got to get the phone book out and call around I'd say. When we had to put our cat to sleep, I called at least 10 places before I found someone who did it for $23. The strange thing about that was it was the vet that we usually took my cats to and it was a very nice facility (Advanced Animal Care Clinic in Bedford off of 121). I called all the places around us and it amazed me how one place could charge $200 and then another could charge $23. A lady at my husband's work had to put her dog to sleep and she found some place to do it for $25, but again, she really had to call around.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck to you and I'm sorry for what you are having to go thru.
