Help with Our Lost Chinchillas

Does anyone have any advice for finding our Chinchillas in an over-stuffed garage?

We moved last month and had to put two Chinchillas in a temporary rabbit cage until we had time to reassemble their larger, metal cage. In the interim they chewed a whole in the plastic and escaped today into a 3 car garage that is literally packed floor to ceiling with furniture that is being moved out next month to a cottage.

We put out their dust bath which is supposed to attract them. So far, nothing. If I feed and water them I'm worried they destroy and chew up the furniture. What a pickle.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Got em' - thanks to you Mama's!!

Honestly, the cat trap was a great idea. My husband took that idea and turned the cage into a rigged up trap. He tied a string to the door and sat a distance away in the dark and put their dust bath and other special food treats in the cage. It took a couple of hours but they're back in.

Thank you!

i'd go with the cat trap with food and water in it. if you have a feed store near you, they sometimes have them to rent. or a local cat shelter. good luck!

I thought the bowls of chinchilla dust would be comforting to them. Just keep ckecking and had a sheet to throw over them. Good luck!! I would be so sad ifour guinea pig got away!

I used to have chinchillas. I LOVE chinchillas. They are so much fun and so cute. Have you tried peanuts? Mine LOVED peanuts. If we had them out and we were playing with them, setting peanuts out was the only way to catch them to put them back in their cage. I hope you can find them!

Bless your husband's heart, Mum! He's a kind, patient man! I'm so glad you got those little critters back where they belong!

Chinchilas are the softest animal I've ever touched! They are so cute too!
