Help with My Almost 1 Year Old Who Does Not Self - Feed

I'm a little worried about my son. He will be 1 year old next week and he is still not self feeding. He will pick stuff up but NEVER puts anything in his mouth. He's just now starting to hold his own sippy cup but not all the time. He also does not eat much "table food" either. He will eat mushrooms, sweet potato and pickles every time but the normal mac & cheese, french fries, veggies, fruits etc....he wants nothing to with. When we went to the Ped at 9 months he said to just keep working on it and we are but to no avail. Anyone else have a similar problem or have any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi T.,

I have an almost 14 month old and we are having the same problems. My son touches a food and begins gagging. It never gets to his mouth. I had an extended discussion with my ped. She said that he was growing at a normal rate so she was not worried. She said to keep introducing foods and not to get frustrated if he doesn't eat. She suggested that we always put on a happy face and get really excited when he does try something new. We tried this last week and he started eating a little: waffle and turkey and cheese. Big step for us. Good luck with you and your son.

Don't worry, he probably just doesn't want to. I assisted my daughter in eating until she was about 14 or 15 months old. Just make sure your giving him a lot of finger foods, and don't sit there with him, he will soon get frustrated enough to figure it out on his own.

little ones can be very picky. I fed my little one for a little longer then a year. It took her a while to catch on , but then without warning she was feeding her with a spoon. The baby will leaarn just give it time. www.workathomeunited.com/enhanceyourgreen
