Help with Facial Cleansing Routine

I think my questions is pretty dumb, but here goes . . .
I am trying to take better care of my skin. I've found products I love (burt's bees cleanser, day/night creams and eye repair). I'm finally getting back into the habit of washing my face and neck every night before bed and using a night lotion. My question is this: I don't take a shower every single morning, and often the time I "get" for a shower is afternoon or evening. Should I be washing my face again in the morning, maybe with a really mild cleanser? Or just rinse with water before doing moisturizer/makeup (if I happen to wear it that day!). Thanks, ladies!

What can I do next?

I say washing your face in the morning is a must! I have been following the simple routine of washing, tonning, and moisturizing since I was 15. People often think I'm 25 (my real age is 35). I believe a good skin care routine goes a long way. The basics are cleaning and moisturizing!

I wash my face every morning and put the moisturizer on. I just started my facial regamin as well and i believe i read somewhere that you should keep your skin moisterized, i sometimes forget to use it at night.

Depends on your skin. I wash morning and night. I like to use a toner (Aveda exfoliant liquid actually) too.

In the winter, I moisturize day & night. In the summer, I usually just moisturize at night.

I don't usually wear make-up either, so that's about it. : )

I don't moisturize and all that. Feels too heavy on my skin..but everyones is different of course!

I have used Neutragena Bar soap for about 20 years..Just the plain fragrance free stuff. I wash in the morning, before I get in the shower, and at night (sometimes right before bed..but usually when I am "in" for the night and I am washing off the light make up I wear for the day and pulling my short hair off my face and back out of the way. Time for the loungy PJs and hope no one stops by unexpectedly! LOL

I have more oily skin (thats the Italian in me I guess??)..so I have to wash!

It is definitely a good idea to wash your face morning and night. Even if I can't take a shower in the morning, washing my face always makes me feel just a little more put together. Several people mentioned using a toner after cleanser. Mary Kay has a 3-in-1 cleanser that has toner in the cleanser so you don't have to go through both steps! Moisturizer afterwards is a good idea though. Let me know if you're interested in the Mary Kay cleanser, I can even send you a sample for free if you're interested. Good luck!

You should wash/moisturize morning and night.

Think of it this way; when you are sleeping your skin is most active. It's rejuvenating itself. You are also breathing on your pillow, your hair is on your pillow and let's face, possibly even drooling on your pillow. Your face is on your pillow.

I have one cleanser for night to take all the make up off and a gentle one for the morning.

Moisture both morning and night. You should have a daytime moisturizer with an SPF of at least 15. This will protect you against sunlight and indoor lighting as well as the pollutants in the air.

There are very light moisturizers out there if you feel your skin doesn't need so much, but, your skin does need that drink of water morning and night!

Since we live in Colorado our elevation puts us that much closer to the sun and it's so important!

Not a dumb question S. :) I'm a licenced esthetician and I can tell you that everyone has these questions! Wash morning and night- regardless of shower routine, or makeup application that day. You should also be moisturizing with an SPF 15 or more EVERY DAY after your morning wash. The sun will be the first thing to contribute to fine lines, and wrinkles. ***And don't forget the sunscreen on your neck, collar bone area, and backs of your hands!! They'll age more quickly without that sun protection as well!) After you wash at night you can use a night cream specially formulated to wear over night- usually it moisturizes deeper and more effectively because you're not worrying about being too oily for make up wear. As for when to wash with shower times- I suggest washing in the morning when you wake up and do a moisturizer at least- then just rinse in the shower and apply your moisturizer with SPF 15+ for the rest of the day. If you plan on going out of the house before your shower apply the spf moisturizer right after washing and re-apply after rinsing in the shower. :) Hope that helps- wish I were closer and I'd get you an appointment in my salon to help!! feel free to contact me with questions ____@____.com

It depends on your skin type. If you have dry skin, you could get away with not washing. But if you have oily skin, or makeup on, you should cleanse so you don't end up with a breakout or blackheads.

Great answers to a common question. A simple rule to follow is as most suggested. Clease & moisturize morning and night. Morning routine is a Protector (helps to keep toxins, sun & pollutants from bombarding our skin) so 15+ SPF moisturizer. Then night routine needs is a Corrector (skin repairs itself at night) so it needs to include a good night cream. I recommend a good anti-aging line. Also never sleep in your makeup. Hope this helps. Since you have thoroughly washed your face the night before, you can rinse with water (you don't want to dry out your skin) and moisturize.

Never such thing as a dumb question! :-) You "should" wash day and night but if you don't have time, doing it at night is best. Often I barely have time to brush my teeth and put clothes on before getting out the door so I don't have time to warm up the water, wash, rinse, tone, lotion, etc. in the a.m. so many times I'll just grab a cotton ball and use toner (I wash the night before) - you can keep this in the car too in case your forget. Definite yes on the moisturize with SPF (altitude and sun exposure!). Oil of Olay makes a really light SPF 15 (I think) moisturizer for the day and a lovely night cream.
